Santander’s banking and mobile app has gone down leaving hundreds of customers unable to make payments.
Over 600 customers have reported problems with the high street bank’s services on the Downdetector website, which monitors the status of online services. Around two-thirds of customers have reported issues with instant payments, and a further 17% say they are unable to use their debit cards. Around 21% saw issues logging into business accounts.
Santander customers have taken to social media to share their frustration with the high street bank. one customer posted on X – formerly Twitter: “Santander please sort your mobile banking out at a pub and i can’t even transfer money.” Another added: “I can’t even transfer money from one Santander account to another. I hope you’re not going to charge me for being £3 overdrawn.” A third said: “I can’t do back transfers between accounts or to my payees. What’s going on?”
On the outage, a Santander spokesperson said: “We aware that customers are currently unable to access some of our services. We’re very sorry for the inconvenience this is causing and are urgently working to fix the problem. We would like to reassure our customers that no customer will be left out of pocket.”
Issues appear to have started around midday, and at its height, 623 people reported a problem. The numbers have dropped, although over 400 people were still facing issues around 2pm this afternoon. The issues have also seen further financial repercussions for customers. In the comment on Downdetector, one person said their Universal Credit payment had yet to come into their bank account, while another went “off supply” with their energy and was going to use their benefit payment to top up their energy.
