Residents have reported shaking following an earthquake near Los Angeles.
The California quake was recorded at a depth of 7.2 miles today, with its epicentre around 6.8 miles southwest of Westlake Village. Areas including Canoga Park, Simi Valley, Montbello and La Verne all reported shaking.
Meteorologist Matthew Cappucci said on X: “A magnitude 4.1 #earthquake just rattled Los Angeles. The epicenter was just south of Thousand Oaks near Malibu Beach. Minor shaking was felt in downtown #LosAngeles. This was a shallow quake (10 mile deep hypocenter) with a mostly side to side fault slip.”
Journalist for the Daily Racing Form Steve Andersen said runners at the Santa Anita Park racecourse felt a “brief rumbling” he said: “Nothing like being on the fifth-floor, the top floor, by the way, when such events occur.”
There have so far been no reports of damage or injuries.

The earthquake, measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale, struck about 10 miles northwest of L.A. at approximately 10.13pm local time on March 2.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the earthquake had a recorded depth of 15.3 kilometres (9.5 miles). There were no reports of injuries.
