Jimmy Carr became the latest comedian to throw out a rowdy guest at a gig after ejecting a heckler during his performance at the massive Birmingham Symphony Hall
Jimmy Carr had a nuisance heckler ejected from his performance – after trouble in the crowd.
The comedian challenged the man sat in the front row of the first tier after it is understood the heckler talking during the opening 30 minutes of the routine on Sunday evening. It reportedly led to fracas in the audience, during which one man is said to have attempted to punch the rowdy heckler.
The troublemaker was booted out of Birmingham Symphony Hall, a decision for which Jimmy, 52, has been widely praised. People, including some who went to the gig, took to social media to express their support.
One user commented: “You handled that annoying idiot like a pro.” Another added: “Fabulous show and the guy that got escorted out, he deserved nothing less.” A third chimed in: “Great show, handled the crowd trouble with class.”
One witness in Birmingham said: “Four people got up to leave and one of them had to be held back from hitting the heckler. Then Jimmy intervened, he told the four fans to sit down and said to the heckler, ‘You’re blind drunk, you’re probably on cocaine, so I’ll give you three choices. You can either get up and leave, go away and come back and see me again, or you can sit there, refuse to go and I’ll get security’.”
Jimmy, known for his notoriously brutal style, eventually hailed security who had the man – and his female companion – ejected within seconds, it is believed.
“Everyone started cheering and Jimmy referred to the Peter Kay incident a few weeks ago. There must be something in the water at these comedy gigs at the moment,” the witness told Mail Online. The Mirror has contacted Jimmy’s representatives for comment about the praise.
Peter Kay kicked three hecklers out of his gig in Manchester in February. Philip Peters is alleged to have repeatedly shouted “garlic bread,” referencing Peter’s famous catchphrase, prompting the comedian to call security for their removal.
Philip, 54, said: “I just can’t understand it, all I said was ‘garlic bread’… I was there with my son and they dragged us out like ragged dolls.” The warehouse worker insists he received a warm reception, including from Mr Kay, when he initially chanted the catchphrase but the comedian lost his patience with the dad during the second half of the gig.
Another audience member at Manchester’s AO arena who expressed admiration by shouting “we love you”, was also asked to leave, with Mr Kay reportedly making a remark comparing her to actress Lisa Riley. Philip said other audience members left early because they were so unhappy people had been thrown out. However, comments online are split with some saying hecklers always ruin shows.
