Teen thugs laugh after frenzied stabbing attack on random stranger

Ramaray Treasure, 18, and Leon Sykes, 19, were both jailed after launching a vicious attack on a complete stranger, stabbing him multiple times, with the pair caught laughing on CCTV afterwards

Two teenagers who launched a frenzied attack on a random stranger have been jailed after the pair were caught on CCTV laughing after the horror stabbing.

Ramaray Treasure and Leon Sykes launched their bloodthirsty attack on the complete stranger, a graduate student, in Sheffield during the early hours of March 9. They set upon the young man, who then ran off, and once they caught up to him the pair repeatedly stabbed him, leaving him fighting for his life. The savage attack only came to an end when a brave member of the public intervened, running across the road to help the victim.

Treasure, of Tansley Street in sheffield, and Sykes, of Victoria Street in Stocksbridge, fled the scene, but were tracked down using CCTV. In a chilling moment, the pair were caught on camera laughing as they walked away from their brutal crime.

They were spotted walking toward Pound’s Park and were confronted by police as they walked along Division Street after officers were directed to the area. When they were confronted by police, Treasure tossed a knife into the air in a bid to throw it over a nearby wall.

As officers approached, Sykes backed away with his hands behind his back. Two knives were later recovered from the area by police.

Treasure, 18, and Sykes, 19, answered ‘no comment’ to all questions they were asked during their police interviews. The pair went on to plead guilty to attempted murder and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

The pair were jailed on Friday at Sheffield Crown Court, Treasure was handed 12 years, while Sykes was given 13 years and eight months. In a statement, the victim described how he is still living in pain following the attack, reports Yorkshire Live.

He added that he suffers from anxiety and depressive episodes as a result of the savage attack. He said the attack has also had an impact on his professional life, as it happened just six months after he completed a masters degree, forcing him to pause his career.

Detective Constable Gareth Rees, the officer in charge of the case for South Yorkshire Police, said: “Treasure and Sykes launched an horrendous and random attack on a victim who they chased through a busy city centre street and stabbed multiple times in full view of a passerby and businessman operating a food truck.

“The attack was interrupted by an incredibly brave member of the public who rushed to the man’s aid. The victim suffered extremely serious injuries which were initially considered to be life-threatening, and he is still dealing with the effects of the attack to this day.

“Treasure and Sykes were tracked as they made their way through Sheffield. At one point, they were seen laughing between themselves. That laughter soon stopped as they were greeted by our officers at Pound’s Park.

“Thanks to the mountain of CCTV evidence we had attained, both men had no choice but to plead guilty to attempted murder. I am pleased with the sentence handed down today, and would like to thank the victim for his bravery throughout proceedings. I hope today’s sentence provides some sort of closure, and that he can now begin to move on from his horrific ordeal.”
