Mum takes DNA test with son to get child support – the results tear her life apart

In a shocking discovery, the mother, from a remote province in Peru, learned about something devastating that had occurred at the hospital on the night her child was born

A loving mum who underwent a DNA test in an effort to obtain child support for her son was left devastated by the results.

In a shocking discovery, she learned that neither she nor her former partner were the parents of the child she had been raising. He had, in fact, been switched at birth in a devastating mistake at the hospital when he was born.

A second test was completed, which also proved to be negative, and a prosecutor requested further tests on three mothers who gave birth around the same time on that fateful night.

The two mothers, who inadvertently switched children, both of whom are six years old, live in a remote province in Peru. They have raised the boys since they were born, but they have since swapped them back.

The life-changing error occurred in a public hospital on December 24, 2018, with DNA tests subsequently indicating that the children had been switched due to negligence on the night in question.

Speaking to AP, Ruth Cieza, one of the mothers, said: “I am adapting to my child who was born from me, who has been brought to me, and at the same time, I miss my little boy, who went to live in the countryside with his real mother. I can’t get the memory of my little boy of my head.”

Meanwhile, Maria Chilcón, the second mother, reportedly fainted in front of the press prior to her departure to the village of Chirinos as she left the boy she’d raised behind. She said: “I don’t know what to do, my God, I want them to help me. One doesn’t want to leave, and the other doesn’t want to stay.”

She said they were experiencing “pain” due to the “hospital and the nurses” and claimed that she had informed a nurse that he wasn’t her son. The response, she claimed, was “of course he is”.

Maria added that she was now “accustomed to him” and that it was “not easy for him to leave.” The AP contacted the general hospital of Jaén for comment but didn’t receive a response at the time.

A court in Jaén, situated in the Cajamarca region, ordered group therapy for the mothers and children. Meanwhile, Judge Andy Herrera, the judge overseeing the trial, ordered new birth certificates.

In the aftermath, Ruth took her real son to an amusement park but, speaking on the phone from the site, revealed that the child she had brought up wasn’t “getting used” to his new life.

According to her sister, Mayra Cieza, they have since started legal proceedings against Jaén Hospital. She also claimed that no hospital executives were in attendance at the hearings.
