A mum-of-three has shared how she’s managed to save money by getting her son into attractions for free.

As the Easter holidays has officially started, parents might be struggling to find things to do with their kids that won’t break the bank. While some places have promotions where kids can eat for free during the school holidays, it can be harder to find budget friendly activities.

However, mum-of-three Becky Hailes has shared her ultimate money saving hack on how you can get your child into more than 200 attractions all over the UK for free. All you need to do is to write a letter.

“Why are you paying full price to get your kid into attractions in the UK when you could be getting them in for free,” Becky said at the start of her TikTok video, which has garnered more than 450,000 views in a few days.

She continued: “I cannot believe that people do not know about this, because Rory’s had one for like three years now and I literally tell everyone to get one. Get a Blue Peter badge.”

While Blue Peter might have stopped their live shows, viewers are still able to apply for a Blue Peter badge, that was first introduced in 1963.

Blue Peter badges are awards given out to children who appear on the CBBC show or show off any special talents. There are seven different badges that can be earned, depending on how you decide to apply for one.

All of the badges allows the child free access to more than 200 Blue Peter badge attractions across the country – including museums, zoos, garden, and castles.

Becky used her son’s Blue Peter badge to get him into an attraction for free at the weekend. She explained: “Saved myself £18. You can do like other things as well, like reading a book, you can like write a letter about like what’s in the book and stuff.

“But honestly, like, check out the Blue Peter website – ignore my hair. Check out the Blue Peter website and like have a look at how to get your child a Blue Peter badge, because if they haven’t got one, they need one.”

All children between the ages of 5 to 15 can apply for their Blue Peter badge for free by visiting the BBC’s website dedicated to the badge. The process include answering a few questions and sending in pictures or drawings to show.

The different badges are the blue badge, given to viewers who send in a drawing or a letter, the book badge, given to book lovers, the green badge for those who care about the environment, the music badge for those with a passion for music, and the sport badge for those who love getting active and have tried a new sport.

There are also two special badges – the orange badge that is given to people who come runners up in a Blue Peter competition, and the gold badge which is given out in exceptional circumstances for outstanding achievements.
