Premier League issue explanation on red card after horror tackle in Arsenal vs Ipswich

By staff20 April 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka required several minutes of treatment after a poor tackle from Ipswich Town defender Leif Davis, who was subsequently shown a straight red card

The Premier League have confirmed that Ipswich Town defender Leif Davis was sent off in Ipswich Town’s match with Arsenal for ‘endangering the safety of an opponent’ after his poor challenge on Bukayo Saka left the England star in agony.

Davis was shown a straight red card by referee, Chris Kavanagh, after going in high and hard on Saka, who required several minutes of treatment.

The call was checked and verified by VAR. And the Premier League confirmed the reasons behind the call in social media post, which read: “The referee’s call of red card to Davis for serious foul play was checked and confirmed by VAR – with the challenge deemed to be endangering the safety of an opponent.”

Saka received treatment as Davis trudged off the field. Thankfully for the Gunners, he was able to continue, though he went on to be booed by the home fans whenever he touched the ball.

Ipswich were 2-0 down when Davis left the field with Saka hugely influential in both goals. His low cutback found Leandro Trossard – after the faintest of touches from the bottom of Martin Odegaard’s boot – and the Belgian poked past Alex Palmer.

And another low cross from the Hale End graduate was expertly diverted into the path of Gabriel Martinelli through a slick backheel from Mikel Merino for Arsenal’s second goal.
