Arsenal news: Mikel Arteta shares Bukayo Saka concern as Roy Keane speaks out

By staff21 April 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta saw his side record a big 4-0 win away at Ipswich Town to cap a positive week and delay Liverpool’s Premier League title coronation

Arsenal went into their match with struggling Ipswich Town on Sunday knowing only a win would be enough to keep the champagne on ice up in Liverpool. And Mikel Arteta’s men duly obliged on a comfortable afternoon in Suffolk.

The Gunners were already two goals to the good when Leif Davis was shown a red card for a rash tackle on Bukayo Saka. Ipswich’s 10 men wilted after the half-time break as Leandro Trossard and Ethan Nwaneri netted to seal a routine 4-0 win.

Arsenal are still highly unlikely to chase down Liverpool at the Premier League summit but delaying their coronation capped a sweet week for the Londoners, who swatted Real Madrid aside to reach the Champions League semi-finals.

But their afternoon was soured by the sight of Saka needing ice on his Achilles after coming off early in the second half. Mirror Football has an update on the England star and all the latest Arsenal news ahead of another big week for Arteta and Co…

Arteta shares Saka concern

Mikel Arteta confirmed that Bukayo Saka escaped a serious injury following Leif Davis’ nasty tackle on the England star – but he confessed that he is worried about losing his star man ahead of Arsenal’s huge Champions League semi-final showdown with Paris Saint-Germain.

The Gunners will meet PSG for a place in the Champions League final and a chance to claim their first ever European trophy.

But the sight of Saka down on the grass left Arteta and Arsenal fans fearful over the prospect of losing more key personnel before their season-defining games with the French giants.

Keane speaks out

Roy Keane pulled no punches with his assessment of Leif Davis’ tackle on Bukayo Saka, branding the Ipswich Town man’s tackle as “unacceptable”.

The left-back was shown a straight red card by Chris Kavanagh after getting nowhere near the ball and raking his foot down the back of Saka’s Achilles. Analysing the challenge in the Sky Sports studio, Keane said: “He’d had a warning earlier and he’s getting frustrated, but this is unacceptable. It’s a dangerous tackle.”

McKenna defends Davis

Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna insisted Leif Davis “hasn’t got a malicious bone in his body” after the defender’s red card on Sunday.

Ipswich’s relegation is likely to be confirmed by the time Davis is free to return to action after his dismissal. But he was defended by his manager, who said after the game: “At the time, I didn’t think it was a red card.

“Leif hasn’t got a malicious bone in his body and there was certainly no intent to cause an injury, but when you see it on the replay, it is a high challenge and I can see why the referee gave it, so I can’t really have any complaints. We were at full stretch trying to compete with 11 v 11, but the red card made it almost an impossible task.”
