Everything ‘despicable’ Donald Trump did at Pope’s funeral that sparked OUTRAGE

By staff26 April 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Donald Trump was slammed for his shocking behaviour during Pope Francis’ funeral this morning as there were several eye-popping incidents involving the president caught on camera

Donald Trump was slammed after his “despicable” behaviour at the funeral service of Pope Francis this morning was caught on the world’s cameras.

The US President was among the leaders who travelled to Rome, joining the likes of Prime Minister Keir Starmer and heir to the throne Prince William to take their seats at St Peter’s Basilica. Some 54 heads of state and 12 reigning sovereigns including Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco as well as King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden also attended. However, it was the behaviour of Trump during the service which caught people’s attention – and not in a welcome way.

While others were respectful of the gravity of the situation, Trump at times appeared bored and was caught on camera playing with his phone. While First Lady Melania, who is a Catholic, appeared rapt with attention, the same could not be said of her husband.

One person commented online: “What’s Donald Trump doing on his phone while attending the Pope’s funeral?” Another added: “At such a time of such a sacred ceremony, Donald Trump doesn’t have enough sense to turn off his phone. He’s distracted. He’s distracting, he’s destructive, praise Lord save us from him.”

Another person added: “No one looked at his mobile phone like Donald Trump during the ceremony, like an uneducated turbulent teenager.” The US President and First Lady were caught on camera engaging in a brief exchange during the service. A lip-reading expert later worked out what the world leader was saying.

Professional Nicola Hickling told The Express Trump said: “I’ll go over and speak to him.” To which Melania replied with a swift ‘side eye’ but did not verbally acknowledge her husband at all during the service.

Seated close to the leaders of countries facing hefty taxes thanks to his tariff system, Trump was later spotted popping chewing gum into his mouth, more akin to a teenager bored at school than the President of the United States at the funeral of the Pope.

Several people were also left fuming at the suit he chose to wear. While nearly every other world leader chose a more traditional black colour, Trump chose a cheerful blue suit for the occasion.

It again caught attention online. One person fumed: “Donald Trump couldn’t even be respectful and wear a black suit to Pope Francis’ funeral like the rest of world leaders. He always has to stick out and try and be the center of attention.”

Another added: “Of course he showed up in a blue suit. He KNEW everyone would be wearing black and he wanted to stand out, like his bleached blonde hair and orange face doesn’t make him stand out enough. He’s despicable.”

Even before arriving at the event he had caused controversy, as he admitted he only went because he won the Catholic vote in last year’s election which brought him to the White House.

He bragged to cameras aboard Air Force One: ““I won the Catholic vote and I think that’s the first time that’s ever happened where a Republican won the vote, but I won it by a lot. I have a great relationship with the Catholics, very simple.

“But I won the Catholic vote, 56% of the vote. I don’t know why we didn’t get more actually. But we did well with the Catholic vote. My relationship is very good therefore I think it’s appropriate [that I attend the funeral].”
