Carlo Ancelotti ‘very close’ to leaving Real Madrid as he makes decision on next job

Carlo Ancelotti is edging closer to becoming the next manager of Brazil with his time in charge of Real Madrid seemingly coming to an end following a difficult season

Carlo Ancelotti is very close to becoming the next Brazil manager, according to reports. The Italian’s time as Real Madrid manager is expected to end imminently and he could depart as early as next week.

Ancelotti, who is the most successful manager in Champions League history, has previously been linked with the South American nation and the stars may now align for him to take the job, reports Sky Sports. Real face the prospect of a trophyless season with the manager set to pay the price.

Ancelotti is yet to take a step into international management but would arrive with huge pedigree. He would also get the chance to coach the likes of Vinicius Jnr and Rodrygo, who have been crucial parts of his attack at Los Blancos.

Brazil are without a World Cup since 2002. They remain the most successful nation in history but haven’t even played in a final since their success more than two decades ago. They’ve also won the Copa America just once since 2007.

The Brazilian Football Federation are thought to be “confident” of landing the iconic manager, who they’re hoping to agree a deal with in the coming days.

The 65-year-old is the first choice candidate for Brazil bosses but they have not ruled out Jorge Jesus as a contender. The former Flamengo manager has a contract with Al Hilal until after the FIFA Club World Cup but could reach an agreement to leave the Saudi outfit next month.

Ancelotti presided over another blow on Saturday night as Real were beaten in the final of the Copa del Rey by Barcelona. The Catalans secured a 3-2 win after extra-time with Los Blancos having three players sent off as their gripes with referees continues.

Despite talk of his exit ramping up the former AC Milan and Chelsea boss recently claimed he loved being in charge at the Bernabeu – and was keen for his tenure to continue. He said: “I love being here [at Madrid] and I hope this will last as long as possible.

“The honeymoon continues. I’m very happy, contented. There is a lot of pressure, true, but that is always the case at this point of the season. I’m happy with the club, they know this has been a tough season. Stress is fuel – it doesn’t bother me, it gives me more energy.”
