Trent Alexander-Arnold was in the middle of Liverpool’s celebrations at Anfield after they clinched the Premier League title with a win over Tottenham – but the subtext was clear
Liverpool supporters are desperately hoping that their momentous Premier League title win – and the scenes that followed – can convince Trent Alexander-Arnold to stay put. Alexander-Arnold’s contract with Liverpool is set to expire at the end of June and he has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid.
The Reds wrapped up the title with a crushing 5-1 win over Tottenham on Sunday afternoon at Anfield. Dominic Solanke put Spurs ahead early on before Liverpool roared back through goals from Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah and an own goal from Destiny Udogie.
Victory saw them confirm the title with four games to spare and sparked jubilant scenes as home fans were able to lap up to the moment, unlike their last league triumph in 2020, which came during Covid-19 restrictions. Alexander-Arnold was front and centre in the celebrations and his actions were being closely watched by anxious Liverpool fans.
Unlike Salah and Virgil van Dijk, Alexander-Arnold has not yet signed a new contract or spoken about his intentions amid speculation he could join Real Madrid on a free transfer.

However, his emotions were there for all to see on Sunday afternoon as he soaked up the atmosphere, joining his team-mates for a rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone.
He was seen jumping onto the back of Ibrahima Konate, dancing with Andy Robertson and chatting with Liverpool owner John Henry. Later, he posted a video of himself singing along to Freed From Desire in the changing rooms with his team-mates as Liverpool fans filled social media with messages for him.
“You won’t get this anywhere else, Trent,” one read. Another wrote: “Best of luck to you Trent. Hope you stay, but if not at least it was a beautiful end of the story.”

“The thought of Trent seeing all this and still wanting to leave is insane to me, I can’t imagine being in his position and making that choice,” a third wrote. “If Trent is involved in these celebrations with his boyhood club and still wants to leave I have no words,” another added.
One fan was much more confident, replying to the video of him celebrating with: “Convinced you’re staying now”. Alexander-Arnold was not made available to speak to the media, according to American broadcaster Peacock.
Alexander-Arnold has now won nine trophies with his boyhood club, having added a second Premier League title to his collection. He potentially now only has four more matches left to play as a Liverpool player, unless he decides to sign a new contract.
