Liverpool news: Mohamed Salah makes admission as Arne Slot reveals Jurgen Klopp contact

Liverpool are revelling in their Premier League title win following a thumping win over Tottenham on Sunday at Anfield, after which Mohamed Salah stole the headlines

Liverpool secured the Premier League title with a crushing win over Tottenham on Sunday evening, with the celebrations going on well into the night. The Reds got the job done with a 5-1 victory which saw them sweep aside Spurs after they had briefly threatened to spoil the party.

Goals from Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah were added to by an own goal from Destiny Udogie to crown Arne Slot’s side as champions. There was a spine-tingling atmosphere inside Anfield as supporters revelled in their team’s triumph.

Liverpool have got the job done with four matches to spare in the league and have equalled Manchester United’s tally of 20 league titles in the process. They are now the joint most successful club side in the country and are deservedly soaking up the praise that has come their way.

Salah’s honest admission

Salah was one of the Liverpool players who spoke to the media on the Anfield pitch and he gave some eye-catching quotes. Liverpool’s talisman gave shout-outs to Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane and Jurgen Klopp while hailing Slot and his team-mates.

Asked how it compared to the last title win back in 2019/20, when Covid-19 restrictions meant no fans, Salah said: “Ah, this is way better 100 per cent. Without Sadio, without Jurgen, without Bobby, with everybody it feels more special, with the fans. But you know, you have a different group now, a different manager and you show you are able to do it again – it’s something special.”

There was also a subtle hint that he prefers playing for Slot than Klopp. “You can see the numbers,” he said. “Now I don’t have to defend much. The tactics are quite different. I said ‘as long as you rest me defensively I will provide offensively’, so I am glad that I did. He listened a lot and you can see the numbers.”

Slot pays tribute to Klopp

Slot was extremely humble when it was his turn to speak. He began his interview with club media by chanting Klopp’s name – in a reference to the former manager’s own on-pitch interview at the end of last season.

That went down a storm and, speaking to Match of the Day later on, he once again hailed his predecessor. “I am 99.9 per cent sure that if I pick up my phone there will be a message from Jurgen,” he said.

“So many moments in the season the two of us have had contact. I think he showed last season what a wonderful human being he is by introducing me. But what mattered most is the team he left behind that was able to win the trophy”.

Alexander-Arnold watch

Trent Alexander-Arnold was right in the thick of the celebrations after the full-time whistle yesterday. He joined his team-mates for a rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone, was seen jumping onto the back of Ibrahima Konate, dancing with Andy Robertson and chatting with Liverpool owner John Henry.

His behaviour was being closely analysed by Reds fans, who are desperate for him to stay put rather than trading Liverpool for Madrid in the summer. Alexander-Arnold’s contract is due to expire in a few months and he hasn’t publicly announced his decision yet.

The 26-year-old didn’t speak to the media yesterday but his enjoyment in the revelry has convinced some fans he will decide to stay with his boyhood club, having secured a ninth trophy with them.
