Jodie Travers, 34, said she’d gone from a size XL to a size M in under five months and it all started with a radical breakfast rethink
A mum-of-two has shared her secret to dropping two dress sizes in less than five months, and it’s all down to skipping her usual breakfast cereal. Jodie Travers, 34, said she’d gone from a size XL to a medium without resorting to dieting, calorie counting or missing out on family dinners.
Her journey to weight loss began with a game-changing decision at breakfast time. “I used to start every morning with a massive bowl of cereal and toast – quick, easy, and full of sugar,” Jodie confessed. “But within an hour I’d be craving biscuits, and by mid-morning I’d feel bloated and tired.”
She ditched the sugar-laden breakfast for a carb-free alternative, opting for eggs, avocado, yoghurt, or occasionally bacon and spinach, and noticed immediate changes.
Jodie revealed: “I didn’t expect it to make such a difference, but I stopped snacking, felt lighter, and the weight just started coming off. I feel like a different person.”
Jodie, from Burnley, has also spoken about her past struggles with self-image, where she would shroud herself in baggy clothing and shy away from mirrors, saying: “I wasn’t proud of how I looked. I felt sluggish, uncomfortable, and honestly – just stuck. I didn’t want to pass that feeling on to my kids.”
Today, she is brimming with confidence and has reignited her passion for fashion, now choosing clothes which she once steered clear of. With the pounds shedding, Jodie gradually increased her activity levels – not through punishing gym routines or high-intensity training, but rather through more simple movement.
“At first, I could only manage a brisk walk around the block,” she confessed. “But I stuck with it – and over time I started running in short bursts, then building up from there.”
Now, she’s a passionate runner who hits the pavement three times a week, alternating between walking and jogging, and she’s got her sights set on a bigger challenge: “I’d love to do a half marathon one day.”
And the lifestyle overhaul didn’t stop with her own habits – Jodie’s two little ones, aged six and four, now enjoy breakfasts that shun sugar for protein.
Jodie revealed: “I realised I was giving them the same sugary stuff I was hooked on – chocolate cereals, fruit juices, jam on toast. Now they have eggs, fruit, yoghurt, or even mini omelettes in muffin tins.”
She noticed an improvement in their concentration at school and moods throughout the morning, feeling chuffed to be a positive role model for them.
The nutritional benefits are no myth, according to expert Daniel Hayworth, a nutritionist focusing on blood sugar balance. He supported Jodie’s breakfast swap, saying: “Sugary breakfasts spike insulin and lead to hunger crashes. By switching to protein and fat in the morning, your body stays fuller for longer and burns fat more efficiently throughout the day. It’s a sustainable and smart approach.”
Her fashion transformation hasn’t gone unnoticed either. Edit Suits commended the change. “When someone drops from XL to M, it completely opens up their options – more tailoring, more shape, more confidence,” an Edit Suits representative said. “They go from hiding to highlighting.”
