Pensioner, 93, gets unexpected surprise after being quoted £350 for garden job

By staff6 May 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

The job only involved a lawn mow and cleaning up leaves, yet the pensioner was quoted hundreds of pounds. Thankfully, their fortunes were about to change though

When a kind-hearted gardener discovered that a 93-year-old woman had been quoted a whopping £350 for a basic garden tidy-up, he knew he had to step in. Mike was appalled to learn that the elderly lady was expected to pay such a hefty sum just to have her lawn mowed and some leaves cleared. Determined to help, he came up with a heart-warming plan.

Instead of charging her the outrageous fee, Mike decided to offer his services for free. He sweetly informed the pensioner of his gesture, asking only to document the transformation on his Garden Yardz Mowing TikTok page in return.

Mike’s 28,000 TikTok followers regularly tune in to see his garden makeovers, and this particular act of kindness didn’t go unnoticed – the video has since racked up more than 515,000 views.

Getting down to business, Mike meticulously trimmed and tidied the lawn, then went over it with a mower to create perfectly striped lines, finishing off with a leaf blower to remove any remaining debris. The end result was nothing short of stunning.

He captioned the viral TikTok video: “Thoughts? 93 year old lady quoted £350 for her lawn cut.”

The clip has garnered more than 6,000 likes, with viewers flocking to the comments section to express their admiration. One user commented: “We need more people like you.”

Others joined in the praise, with one saying: “Well done fella.” while another added: “Looks better now.”

A fourth chimed in: “Good on you! They were definitely taking advantage of her.”

Others were left aghast to hear that some are charging our elderly folk such steep prices for gardening. One person exclaimed: “93? That little bit of grass? I’d have to do it for free.”

Another joined in solidarity: “I’d do it for a brew and a chat. People are ruthless!”

Another suggested a fairer price, saying: “30 minimum – call out charge and that’s it.”

Meanwhile, a further commenter shared their own act of kindness: “Some heartless people about. I used to do my elderly neighbour’s garden every two weeks. Back, front and hedges. Never charged him.”
