Davide Frattesi scored in extra-time to earn Inter Milan a place in the Champions League final after an incredible back and forth semi-final match against Barcelona at the San Siro
Inter Milan hero Davide Frattesi left Thierry Henry in stitches in his post-match interview after firing the Nerazzurri to the Champions League final. The Italian midfielder scored to send the San Siro into jubilant celebrations in extra-time against Barcelona.
Inter had previously given up a two-goal lead on Tuesday night before Francesco Acerbi forced a further 30 minutes of play with a stoppage time equaliser following Barca’s remarkable comeback. Frattesi then went on to provide the match-defining moment in the 99th minute.
The 25-year-old came off the bench as a 79th-minute replacement for Henrikh Mkhitaryan and 20 minutes later was sprinting to the corner flag screaming after a very cool finish. The composure that Frattesi showed left Henry very impressed.
The Arsenal legend asked the goalscorer what was going through his mind as he chose to dummy shooting before firing the ball goalwards. “I didn’t see a man that was nervous or that his heart was beating really fast,” Henry told the match-winner following the game.
“I saw a guy that was composed to finish at that time in that tie, in that game. Explain to us how you thought about doing that.”

“Thank you, I don’t know,” responded Frattesi. “Maybe because I was thinking if I don’t score I’m f****d.”
Inter’s hero left the CBS Studio in stitches with Henry bowing his head and hitting the table. Former Juventus striker Alesandro Del Piero could not hide his smile, stood alongside Frattesi.
While Frattesi retained his composure at the crucial moment, that could not be further from the truth for his celebrations. The ex-Sassuolo ace almost passed out.
“I was fortunate to see out the game, as I was celebrating so much I was dizzy and nearly had a blackout!” Frattesi admitted. “I have to thank the physios, because yesterday I had an abdominal strain, so they did incredibly work getting me fit for this match.
“It’s just incredible, I don’t know what to say. I thought after the Bayern Munich game I couldn’t repeat that emotion, but it was even more incredible tonight. This is the beauty of football.
“This has been my career, really. I wasn’t blessed with incredible talent, but I am the last to give up and the first to believe, so this is a reward for effort and dedication.”
