A suspect has been shot by armed police on a housing estate after two people were reportedly stabbed in the street.
Police swooped on Bluebell Estate in Huyton, Merseyside, after reports of gunshots heard and an air ambulance was seen landing. There are cordons in place across Alamein Road, Salerno Drive and Tobruck Road with dozens of police officers working inside.
Police have now confirmed that they received a report that a man and woman were stabbed with armed police arriving on the scene and shooting a suspect who is now in hospital.
A statement read: “At around 4.25pm, we received a report that a man and woman had been stabbed in the Tobruk Road area. Armed response officers attended and the suspect was subsequently shot by police. He has been taken to hospital for treatment.”
It continued: “An investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances of the incident and the road has been cordoned off. Officers remain at the scene and are carrying out house-to-house and CCTV inquiries.”
