A woman has revealed the five small but mighty changes she’s introduced into her daily routine, claiming they’ve revolutionised her life. Keen to inspire others to enhance their own routines for better overall well-being, she took to social media to share the transformative tweaks, insisting they help kick-start the day in the best way possible.

Taislany Gomes Valadares, a lifestyle, fashion, and beauty influencer known as @Taislany on Instagram, drew in her followers with a recently uploaded thought-provoking video titled “Five tiny morning shifts that changed everything for me and may help you too.” In her post, she says: “The way you start your morning matters more than you think.”

The way you wake up can greatly impact your day, shaping your mood, energy, and overall effectiveness. A refreshing and cheerful start can create a brighter outlook for the day, whereas a jarring wake-up might leave you feeling sluggish and unfocused. Studies show that waking up in a happy or calm state tends to be associated with a generally positive mood throughout the day, while a negative start can lead to a more challenging day.

Taislany explains that morning rituals don’t have to be flawless or picturesque, but rather personal and nurturing. She then outlines her top five ‘game-changing’ habits and ‘tiny’ changes, beginning with what she calls the ‘five-second rule’, as reported by Bristol Live.

1. The five-second rule

Elaborating on this approach, Taislany said: “The moment my alarm goes off, I count down 5-4-3-2-1 and get up. It stops overthinking in its tracks and builds that quiet momentum – the kind that says, ‘I’ve got me’.” This countdown technique is designed to disrupt dawdling and spur immediate action when you need to make a choice or begin a task, like getting out of bed.

Best-selling author Mel Robbins came up with the “five-second rule” and wrote a book on the subject. She said: “Change requires you to do things that are uncertain, scary, or new… I notice that the longer I wait between my initial impulse to act and physically moving, the louder the excuses get, and the harder it becomes to force myself to move.”

2. Have a glass of water

Taislany swears by a morning ritual of hydration before anything else. She said: “Before checking my phone or speaking, I hydrate. It’s simple, but it makes me feel like I’m choosing myself first. A tiny reset with a big impact.”

Downing a glass of water first thing is widely regarded as a beneficial routine. It replenishes the fluids lost overnight through respiration and perspiration. This straightforward habit can lead to numerous advantages, including a boost in energy levels, better digestion, and potentially even clearer thinking.

3. Deep breathing for a minute

Incorporating just one minute of deep breathing into your morning routine within the first half-hour of waking could work wonders for your well-being. Deep breathing is known to increase dopamine levels, lift spirits, and contribute to overall health.

It helps to enhance oxygen circulation, calm the nervous system, and might even give you an energy surge, setting a positive tone for the day ahead. Taislany said: “No apps. No pressure. Just me and my breath. It’s how I tell my body: we’re safe, we’re here, we’re okay. Especially helpful on anxious mornings.”

4. Open the curtains

Letting natural light into your room first thing in the morning can be a game-changer for your body’s internal clock and perk up your alertness levels. Taislany said: “Sunlight signals your body it’s time to rise. I open the blinds, step outside, or just sit by the window. Even on grey days, light changes things.”

There’s even evidence to suggest that soaking up some early morning sun could be linked to slimmer waistlines, potentially due to its effects on your metabolism.

5. Get moving

Taislany advised: “Not a workout – just movement. A stretch. A walk. A dance in the kitchen. It shifts my energy and reminds me I’m alive in this body.” Kicking off your day with a bit of exercise has a heap of perks. It gets your metabolism going from the get-go, which might mean you’ll shed more calories throughout the day. Plus, getting active in the morning can lift your spirits thanks to those happy hormones your brain releases.

Wrapping up her tips, Taislany told her fans: “You don’t need to do them all. You don’t need to be perfect. But if your mornings have felt heavy lately… maybe try one tomorrow. Start where you are. Let it be a soft way back to yourself.”

She added: “And in case you needed the reminder: You’re doing better than you think. You’re allowed to begin again. Your pace is perfect. Save this for when you need a gentle restart. You’ve got this.”
