A British boy has been hospitalised after he smashed into a glass door whilst running to a pool in a freak accident overseas. The eight-year-old didn’t see the clear door as he went to take a dip at the hotel resort in Majorca on Thursday afternoon.

He endured a deep cut to his abdomen after “running through” the glass at the Europa Fergus Hotel outside Peguera, near Magaluf. Emergency services rushed to the scene and took the boy to Son Espases Hospital in the island of Palma. His injuries were so severe that medics reportedly hid the wounds from his parents, by covering them because they were so big.

He was raced into the operating theatre and went under the knife. According to local media, staff had earlier carried out tests to see if his organs had been affected.

The unnamed boy is understood to have hurt himself as he ran to see what the pool was like moments after his parents checked in.

The freak accident occurred because he didn’t realise the ground-floor glass door in his room wasn’t open. Police are looking into the incident, although there is no suggestion the hotel was at fault in any way. Hotel chiefs have offered their support to the youngster.

Over in Russia, a woman suffered an excruciating injury after braving a free-fall waterslide last year. The 20-year-old was enjoying her trip at a waterpark when her day suddenly took a turn for the worse.

The visitor had come to an abrupt halt near the bottom of the slide, which measured to 45ft.

She had to slowly climb out of the ride as blood flooded down her legs following the incident in August last year. Gynaecologist Lyaysan Khisamieva said at the time: “When she slid down the highest slide with a high speed water flow, she suffered a perineal tear.

Everything was covered in blood. They called an ambulance, and took her to the gynaecology department. Stitches were applied to her perineum under anaesthesia. Now she can barely walk and plans to sue the water park.”

This type of injury is often linked to childbirth but, in this case, occurred due to the high speed and impact while the lady was sliding down the steep amusement. The force of the slide caused a tear, leading to significant bleeding. The woman need surgical intervention.
