Barrel leg trousers are without doubt the most popular style for 2025, with countless retailers having added a selection of jean and jersey options to their lineup in the cool and casual cut. In particular, Japanese streetwear retailer Uniqlo, best known for their basics and wardrobe staples, has wooed shoppers with their take on the trend, with shoppers having snapped up the Jersey Barrel Leg Trousers in every available shade.
The ‘crisp and comfortable’ trousers usually cost £34.90 per pair, and are available in three neutral, versatile shades including navy, olive and off white. But I’ve found a deal where fashion fans can pick up the trousers for under £20, despite the fact that they’re not currently on offer.

What I love about these trousers is how versatile they are when it comes to styling. They offer a smarter appearance than jeans, pairing well with workwear for an office setting in a similar way to a tailored trouser or chino. But the more relaxed cut means they can be styled down for more laidback occasions, too, making them a real wardrobe workhorse.
As mentioned previously, the barrel leg is a really popular style at the moment, as such, Marks and Spencer has these Barrel Leg Trousers for £39.50 in four chic shades. They’ve earned a 4.5 star rating from shoppers based on more than 130 reviews, with one commenting: “These trousers are so comfortable to wear and are practically crease free. Stylish and easy to dress up or down.” However, M&S is still not taking online orders due to an ongoing cyber incident.
Elsewhere, Lucy and Yak sell these black Freddie Barrel Leg Cotton & Linen Trousers for £57. These are arguably made from an even cooler material than the Uniqlo trousers, which are made from cotton and polyester, though the Lucy and Yak ones are more expensive.
And there’s one brand we can’t help but mention when it comes to barrel legs, and that’s Beyond Nine, which has become renowned for its Mabel linen trousers. The trousers come in more than a dozen colourways and are made from 100% linen, so while they’re definitely the best option for the warmer weather, the sustainable trews are a little pricey at £125 a pair. For the price and their cotton blend, Uniqlo’s pair holds its own on the market and has earned a slew of positive reviews from shoppers.

However, some have found that the style didn’t suit them, leaving a three star rating which read: “Not flattering for a petite person and the stitching quality is not great. I think it’s just bad luck though.”
