Sky has just sent out a text message to users urging them to ‘please’ switch off their set-top boxes.
Thousands of UK homes were hit by some serious TV gremlins last week. Sky Q suffered a major outage on Thursday night, which left users unable to view content or tune into their favourite shows. Many complained that their screens went blank, froze or displayed an error message.
Sky quickly confirmed the problems and announced they had been fixed. However, it appears some users of the popular telly platform have continued to have issues.
“3 days my sky Q has been down. Not a single thing working, just screen swirling,” one Sky user said in a post on X.
Another user added, “My sky Q is down. It’s still not working. I cannot even watch recordings or apps.”

Sky had already issued some advice telling those with problems to reset their boxes, now the telly company has gone one step further by pushing out a nationwide text.
“We’re extremely sorry if you experienced issues with your Sky Q services recently,” the text reads.
“These issues have been fixed. If you’re still having trouble, please switch off your box at the mains for 30 seconds, then back on. For mini box issues, also reboot the main box.”
So, the advice is simple. If your Sky Q box continues to be causing you issues, head to the plug, turn it off, leave it for 30 seconds and then switch it back on again.
That should hopefully give things a reset and make sure the gremlins are cleared.
It’s worth noting that the problem only affects Sky Q boxes. Those with internet-powered gadgets such as Sky Glass and Sky Stream remain unaffected.
