Gardeners urged to hang one item in apple and plum trees from May to July

By staff21 May 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Spring and summer are crucial for gardeners to keep their outdoor spaces as tidy and pest-free as possible, and this one item will help prevent fruit plants being damaged.

Now that the good weather has finally arrived and we’ve had an early taste of summer temperatures, gardening tasks are also becoming more and more consistent – and a must, if you want to have a well-tidied and vibrant outdoor space.

However, the warm weather also means the visit of some unwanted guests that might be too tempted to damage your plants and flowers. But don’t worry, there’s something that you can do to prevent this from happening.

Springtime is an important season for plant care, as it’s when plants enter their active growing season. It’s important for gardeners to take advantage of the good weather and the longer hours of sunlight, as plants thrive the most under these conditions.

Apple and plum trees are known to attract insects because of their nutrients. As shared by Gardeners’ World, gardeners can hang pheromone traps in apple and plum trees to control pests.

A pheromone trap is a device that uses female pheromones to lure insects. Male insects and pests get attracted by the scent, until they get trapped.

Pheromone traps are also good because they only attract particular insects, meaning that beneficial insects won’t be getting harmed by them. For example, pheromone traps attract moth species that can defoliate plants and damage fruits. They can be made of different materials, as long as the space is enclosed enough for these insects to be attracted and enter.

The traps are very simple and effective. Just make sure to hang one in a tree around head height, so it doesn’t touch any flowers. There’s also no need to hang one in every tree, but just in every few trees as long as they’re not too far from each other.

There are many different methods to keep pests away from plants and flowers. A regular inspection can also spot any problems and most importantly, maintain the health of the plant during the growing period.

Nonetheless, good and regular gardening care is still needed, such as regular watering. By doing this, gardeners can rest assured that their patios will remain pest free from any unwanted insects damaging their fresh products.

Gardening is very important during the months of May, June and July, as it’s the time when insects are flying freely around green spaces in hopes to find any nutrients to help them survive in the hotter months. Better act now before it’s too late!
