Brit woman in Majorca plunges 60ft to horror death as police issue alert

The 39-year-old British woman died from her injuries after falling from a beauty spot in Palma, Majorca – police have launched an investigation into the circumstances

A British woman has tragically died after plunging from a scenic beauty spot. The 39-year-old was rushed to hospital with critical injuries after falling about 60ft from a lookout point which overlooks the sea in Palma, Majorca.

Local police and paramedics who responded to an emergency call stabilised her at the scene, before putting in place a ‘Green Alert’ to clear traffic for an ambulance. She died later that day at the Son Espases Hospital from her injuries. The alert was raised around 8.30am on Monday. The woman, who has not been named, was admitted to an intensive care unit as police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Hospital sources said today that she died the same evening, just hours after being admitted to hospital. Insiders close to the investigation confirmed they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident, and said it was not being treated as a crime.

Detectives have spoken with witnesses who saw the woman fall. It was not immediately clear today if she was on holiday in Majorca or lived locally.

The Mirror has approached the Foreign Office for comment.

The spot where the tragedy took place, known as Mirador es Jonquet in Spanish, is described in travel reviews as a captivating scenic spot with “stunning vistas” and a tranquil atmosphere.

The area around it is popular with walkers, including many tourists. Just last month, a British cyclist died while competing in a famous amateur race in Majorca.

Tributes were paid to Phillip Williams, 39, who died after a fall on April 26 despite attempts by emergency medical responders to save him.

He suffered his accident on the road between Esporles and Valldemosa as he took part in the gruelling Mallorca 312 event, which this year featured the likes of former Chelsea and Real Madrid star Eden Hazard.

Meanwhile, a British tourist has been left fighting for his life after being run over in Madrid – allegedly by a drug driver. The 35-year-old holidaymaker was hit by a car as he tried to cross the road near the Spanish capital’s Atocha Railway Station.

The man behind the wheel was a private hire vehicle driver, and local reports said he tested positive for drugs at the scene and was arrested.

The driver has not been named, but has been identified as a 33-year-old man from Venezuela.

After suffering a severe head injury, the driver was rushed to the Spanish capital’s 12 de Octubre Hospital and taken intensive care.

The incident unfolded in the early hours of Saturday morning, when the unnamed British tourist is said to have been crossing the Paseo del Prado.
