A hidden gem in the UK is gaining attention for its breathtaking beauty, with some likening it to a scene from a ‘Disney film. ‘ Our country is teeming with quaint towns and villages that remain under the radar, as well as awe-inspiring natural landscapes.

From secluded seaside spots to lush woodlands, there are countless destinations to escape the city chaos and discover somewhere new. One such haven is Arundel Castle, situated in the picturesque town of Arundel, West Sussex.

The castle is nestled within serene gardens, complete with fountains and vibrant floral displays, and boasts stunning views of the River Arun. With a rich history dating back to the 11th century, the castle was built by Roger de Montgomery, Earl of Arundel.

Although it suffered significant damage during the Civil War (1642-45), the castle was meticulously restored and revamped in the 18th and early 19th centuries by Charles Howard, the 11th Duke of Norfolk.

Today, visitors can delve into the castle’s fascinating past while exploring its grounds. According to Arundel Castle’s Instagram account, it’s one of England’s largest inhabited and complete castles.

A TikTok user recently showcased the castle’s grandeur in a short video, hailing it as an “underrated gem in the UK.”

The clip left viewers spellbound, with many drawing comparisons to Disney. One user gushed: “That’s stunning, it looks like it should be in a Disney movie. Another added: My first thought was Frozen cause it’s called Arundel.”

One person couldn’t help but draw parallels to a popular Disney movie, remarking: “My first thought was Frozen because it’s called Arundel.”

The hit film Frozen features the adventures of Princess Anna and Queen Elsa in the fictional kingdom of Arendelle.

A TikTok user expressed their amazement, saying: “Wow! I didn’t know [the] UK had such places. Time to visit!”.

Another shared their personal connection with the location, commenting: “I am so lucky to live close by. I go every year, it’s gorgeous there.”

The official Arundel Castle website boasts that visitors can enjoy a “wonderful variety of landscapes and environments,” which includes the distinctive Stumpery, the meticulously designed Collector Earl’s garden, the Glasshouses, and experience “explosions of colour” along with “delicate aromas”.

Originally a defensive stronghold, Arundel Castle underwent a transformation into an opulent residence for the Dukes of Norfolk during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Guests are invited to meander through the lavish state rooms, view the “individually decorated bedrooms with Victorian and Edwardian bathrooms”, explore the Fitzalan Chapel nestled within the castle grounds, and more.

The enchanting “glorious gardens with surprises around each corner” have led to Arundel Castle Gardens being shortlisted for the Historic Houses Gardens of the Year Award 2025.

Arundel Castle is set to host an array of events throughout the year, including medieval festivals, historical re-enactments, and a grand six-day medieval jousting tournament slated for late July.

The castle will continue to welcome visitors until Sunday, 2 November. Tickets can be obtained online through the website or purchased on the day at the ticket office.

The cost for entry to the castle, gardens, and events differs.
