Donald Trump was branded an a***hole by his own niece Mary in a fascinating interview and now the woman has offered her thoughts on what makes the US President tick
Donald Trump is hellbent on remaining US President for the rest of his life, his own niece insists.
The world leader, 78, is reportedly desperate to tear up the constitution, which has always been America’s protection against absolute power. His team last month had baseball caps made, hinting at another potential run for office, after having said he is “not joking” about trying to serve a third term.
Mr Trump had said there are “methods” – if not “plans” – to circumvent the constitutional limit, claims reflected by his niece Mary, 60, in an interview this week. She said: “That’s what Donald certainly has in mind. It’s not about whether or not he’ll run. It’s about whether or not he’ll leave. It’s more likely that he’ll just say, ‘I’m president for life and I’m not going anywhere’. And he’ll challenge people to get rid of him.”
And it’s those nine, alarming words – “I’m president for life and I’m not going anywhere” – Mary, a psychologist and writer, emphasised are crucial as she says her uncle knows the US is struggling to “get rid of him”.

But of course, the majority of the US voted for Mr Trump in the first place. Mary, daughter of the President’s older brother Fred Jr, has long been a Democratic though. She typically opposes most of her uncle’s policies and proposals.
However, the psychologist is also aware of the Democrats’ shortcomings. She told The Telegraph: “America is a deeply broken country and it has been for a long time. Donald is not an anomaly. He is, I think, the logical conclusion to the last 40 years of Republican degradation.
“The Democrats continue to not just fail to meet the moment, they fail to understand the moment… And one of my biggest criticisms of the Biden administration is that they didn’t see a second Trump term coming and they failed to prepare adequately. Part of it was complacency, part of it was just a failure of understanding where people in this country were.”
Speaking in March, former businessman Mr Trump insisted he was not joking about finding a way to secure a third term in office. The father of five said: “Well, there are plans… There are – not plans. There are methods – there are methods which you could do it, as you know.”
The constitution’s 22nd amendment was approved and ratified after concerns were raised when Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was a Democrat, became the only president to be elected for a third and fourth term in the 1940 and 1944 elections respectively. Yet, Mr Trump’s recent remarks – and even the markets – indicate the successful circus may well go on.
