Prince William says Prince Louis is backing five football teams – but the 7-year-old will have to pick a side soon

Prince William has revealed that his youngest son, seven-year-old Prince Louis, is struggling to pick a favourite football team and is currently supporting no fewer than five squads

It looks like there’s a bit of football indecision in the Wales household – and Prince William says Prince Louis is the one who’s still figuring it all out.

During a visit to the Leith Community Centre in Edinburgh on 21 May, the Prince of Wales revealed that his youngest son is still on the fence when it comes to choosing his favourite football team, and he’s currently sitting on five!

“My youngest at the moment says he supports five different football teams,” William, 42, said during a chat with a young local, according to Hello! magazine.

William had popped in to mark a new partnership between The Royal Foundation and Street Soccer Scotland, an organisation that uses the beautiful game to bring people together and boost community well-being.

The Prince, who is a long-time supporter of the sport, spoke candidly about how his children are getting on when it comes to picking their team.

It seems Louis, seven, still hasn’t made up his mind. Erin, aged nine, presented William with a handmade Aston Villa poster and asked which team she supported. When she admitted she had more than one, William smiled and said Louis is doing exactly the same, backing “five different” clubs.

It’s no secret that William is a die-hard Aston Villa fan. He’s even passed his passion down to his eldest son, George, 11. The pair were spotted together at two Villa matches this spring, with William confirming to sports journalist Neil Moxley that George is indeed “part of the pride”.

But the royal dad-of-three doesn’t expect all of his children to follow his lead. “I’m kind of hoping they’ll all find their own teams in time. They don’t all have to be Villa fans,” he told The Sun in March during a rare football-focused interview. I’m trying not to be biased, but obviously, they see how passionate I am about it, and they watch the matches with me. I’m trying to spread the love a little bit,” William added.

Though George has been spotted at matches, and all three children apparently own Villa shirts, it seems there’s a bit of competition behind the scenes. “They do have Villa shirts, and ask to come to games with me, but they have other shirts as well. There’s been a bit of courting going on by other managers, too,” William revealed cheekily.

And it’s not just talk. The Prince recently showed off his own football skills at Leith Community Centre, taking to the pitch in a suit as part of his official visit. Earlier in the week, he also presented the FA Cup trophy to Crystal Palace at Wembley, fulfilling his duties as Patron of the Football Association.

As part of its new initiative, The Royal Foundation has pledged financial support to revitalise Leith Community Centre and back a “Leith United” coalition aimed at securing long-term funding for grassroots community spaces.

Whether Prince Louis will soon pick a side remains to be seen, but with a foot in five camps, he’s clearly keeping his options open, and maybe that’s the way to go?
