Weather rollercoaster for Brits as mercury to rise then fall – then rise again

By staff27 May 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

The mercury is set to rise this weekend, warm enough to enjoy a barbecue at around 27C, before the temperature falls dramatically – then rise again over a few days

Brits are set to enjoy sweltering conditions in the coming days, before temperatures plummet south and then rise again, as the weather takes the country on a rollercoaster ride.

A glorious plume of hot air is set to blow into the skies of the UK this coming weekend – too late for the washout bank holiday, but in time for people needing a break after a week back at work. It will drag with it Caribbean temperatures climbing to a summer-inspiring 27C which may prompt many to drag out their barbecues and enjoy the warmth. However, as ever, it will not last – as maps show the arrival of June will cause the temperatures to plummet to usual levels for this time of the year by Monday, and then rising again on Tuesday, June 3.

The weather on Friday will begin to rise(Image: NetWeather)

The Met Office ’s long range forecast reads: “Though possibly more settled initially, likely continuing changeable with further frontal systems running east into the UK bringing further spells of rain, with showery interludes in-between.

“Strong winds may also develop at times, particularly in the north and northwest. With time the signs are systems will increasingly track to the northwest of the country, with the south probably starting to see longer, drier interludes while the northwest continues to see more in the way of rain and at times strong winds.

“Temperatures are expected to be around normal overall, but will be cooler in any prolonged periods of rainfall. Meanwhile there is the possibility of some very warm, perhaps hot conditions developing, especially in the south and these bring with them the chance of thunderstorms.”

Temperatures are expected to peak late on Friday, May 30 into Saturday, May 31. The heat will stretch from London to reaching North Yorkshire , the East Midlands and West Midlands which are set to sizzle at highs of 24C. It will then drop down again before, thankfully rising as summer arrives in the UK proper.

Today, Brits can expect a dry start before rain and winds spread across the country from the east.

The Met Office’s forecast reads: “A dry start, before further rain and strong winds spread eastwards across England and Wales, also affecting Northern Ireland for a time during the morning.

“Sunshine and showers in Scotland.”

For the rest of the week it says: “Further spells of rain spreading in from the west at times, interspersed with sunny spells and scattered showers.

“Windy at times and temperatures around average for the time of year.”
