Huge Gmail upgrade is about to fix some big issues with your email inbox

By staff27 May 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Google is rolling out some big changes to its Gmail email service and here’s what’s new.

Some big changes are coming to Gmail inboxes, and they could help to fix some of the biggest issues when keeping on top of your endless emails. The major update, which was announced by Google at its yearly I/O conference in California, will bring a number of smart features to accounts.

It’s all part of the US tech firm’s plan to include its Gemini smart assistant in more of its products, and it could be pretty useful if you don’t have the time or patience to sort your inbox and reply to emails each day.

The first – and most useful – change will make it far easier to send a quick response to a message you’ve received. It’s called personalised smart replies, and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Gmail can currently help when typing a message back to people via standard “smart replies,” but things are about to get way better.

As Google explains: “Personalised smart replies in Gmail will help you draft emails that match your specific context and your tone. By pulling from your past emails and Google Drive, Gemini provides response suggestions with specific details that are more relevant and on point, eliminating the need to dig through your inbox and files yourself.”

To help things sound more like you and not an AI assistant, Google also reckons this update will adapt to your typical tone. This upgrade should make sending those endless emails a lot less laborious.

Next, Google wants to make it easier to keep your inbox clean and clutter-free. Soon, you’ll be able to ask Gemini to delete certain emails, and it will do the rest.

“Reclaim control over your emails with inbox cleanup,” Google explains.

“Simply tell Gemini what you want to do (e.g., “Delete all of my unread emails from The Groomed Paw from last year”) and watch as it helps you manage and declutter your inbox with a single click.”

Finally, Google says it wants to fix another “email pain point” for business users.

When scheduling meetings with someone outside of a company it can be tricky to get the perfect time or date.

Without visibility into calendars, it can take multiple rounds of emails to nail down a suitable time. Now, Google is launching fast appointment scheduling integrated into Gmail. This means you can easily offer times to book, without ever leaving your inbox.

“Gemini in Gmail detects when you’re trying to set up a meeting and surfaces a helpful nudge, making it easy to share your booking page right in Gmail, significantly reducing the time and effort spent coordinating schedules,” said Google.

There’s no exact launch time for these upgrades but Google says they will arrive before the end of the year.
