Simone Inzaghi threatens to overshadow Champions League final with Inter Milan refusal

By staff30 May 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Inter Milan face Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday night in Munich with European football’s biggest club prize on the line – but the future of Nerazzuri boss Simone Inzaghi is far from certain and he’s added more fuel to the fire

Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi has refused to comment on speculation that he’s on his way out of the club regardless of what happens in the Champions League final. Inzaghi confirmed he will meet up with club bosses next week to discuss what the future holds whether the Italians beat Paris Saint Germain or not.

Inter go into their second Champions League final in three seasons, having lost to Manchester City in 2023, and with their players still trying to overcome the heartbreak seeing their bid to retain the Serie A title ended by Napoli on the final day last weekend.

But there are also rumours in Italy that Inzaghi is being offered a fortune to quit the Nerazzurri to join Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal.

Inzaghi said: “As for the future, we will see after this Champions League final. We will have a chat next week in a very relaxed manner.

“We have left the disappointment of last week to one side. We spoke about what happened and we know we could not have done any more.

“I do not want the players to become obsessed with what’s in front of them. We must be focused and determined to the right degree.

“Self-belief, hard running, determination, cool heads. I could use a whole host of adjectives to describe what I am looking for – because to win a match like this you need absolutely everything.”

Inter finished fourth in the group stages after winning six and drawing one of their eight games. After cruising past Feyenoord in the last 16, they eliminated Bayern Munich out in the quarter-finals 4-3 on aggregate – including a 2-1 win in the Allianz Arena.

In the semi-finals, a classic 3-3 draw at Barcelona was eclipsed in the second leg when defender Francesco Acerbi scored an equaliser in the third minute of injury time before Davide Frattesi grabbed an extra-time winner to secure a stunning 7-6 aggregate victory.

Inzaghi said: “We are hugely excited to be in the Champions League final, but we fully-deserve to be here – and so do Paris St Germain. They are the best team in the world when it comes to ball possession, but we are also one of the best on that score.

“Two years ago we were underdogs and we lost the game even though I felt our performance against a team who at that time were the best in the world deserved more.

“I don’t know what I will say to the players before they go out, but I am sure my heart will tell me.

“I dreamed of games like this when I was a kid. Getting to the Champions League quarter-finals was the best I did as a player, but I have been to two finals as a coach and I know that we are at a stage where the only thing that matters is whether you win or lose.”
