A 15-year-old girl and 67-year-old woman have died in a devastating house fire which police are treating as ‘unexplained’.

Fire crews rushed to a blaze at a home in Bletchley, Buckinghamshire around midday on Friday, were they found the body of teenager Ann Eyre along with the body of a woman, who has not yet been identified. Police said that both deaths were being treated as “unexplained”. Their next of kin have been informed and are currently being offered support, a spokesperson added. “Shocked” neighbours said they had attempted to break down the door of the home in a bid to save the pair.

One man named Gabriel, who lived next door, described hearing “loud screams” before another resident asked for someone to “break the door”.

He told the BBC that the family affected by the tragedy was “easy-going, calm and lovely”.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: “Officers are investigating two unexplained deaths following a house fire in Bletchley.

“The Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service called us to an address in St Patrick’s Way at around 12.10pm on Friday to assist with the fire.

“Firefighters quickly brought the flames under control but a 15-year-old girl and a 67-year-old woman, sadly died at the scene. The victims’ next of kin have been informed and offered our support.“Although she has not been formally identified, we can confirm the girl who tragically died was Ann Eyre, from Bletchley. We would ask people to respect her family’s privacy at this incredibly difficult time.“St Patrick’s Way was closed but reopened on Saturday. Thank you to the local residents for your patience and we apologise for any inconvenience.“Any witnesses or anyone with information should call 101 or make a report on our website.”Post mortem examinations are to be carried out on the bodies of both victims to established the exact cause of their deaths. An inquest is set to be opened by the coroner in Milton Keynes.

Police have not revealed whether they believe the cause of the fire was suspicious. There have been no arrests.

A spokesperson from Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Five crews attended, two from West Ashland, one from Broughton, one from Buckingham, one from Olney along with four officers.

“Smoke was issuing from a two-story property on arrival.

“The firefighters used six sets of breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one main jet, a thermal imaging camera and a positive pressure ventilation fan.

“One woman and one girl were located and brought out of the house by the firefighters, who provided immediate emergency care. Sadly both the woman and the girl died at the scene.”
