Brit in Spain orders full English breakfast and is stunned by the price

By staff2 June 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

A British expat living in Tenerife shared a video of his full English breakfast at a seafront cafe in Los Cristianos – and was amazed by the price of the meal

A traditional English breakfast includes sausages, fried eggs, baked beans, crispy hash browns, streaky bacon, and toasted bread. This hearty meal is served hot, offering a filling and comforting start to the day. Each component complements the others, making for a classic and satisfying British breakfast.

Tenerife, the largest among the Canary Islands, has long been a hotspot for Brits craving sun-soaked holidays by the sea. With British holidaymakers making up over 40% of all international visitors last year, it’s no surprise there are worries about increasing costs on this cherished isle.

In a move to address growing concerns of overtourism and protect its natural treasures, Tenerife will introduce an ‘eco tax’ starting next year for those wanting to admire the view from Mount Teide, Spain’s tallest mountain located on the island.

Amidst these price hikes, a British expat who works in a travel firm and shares updates on TikTok, has observed tourists grumbling about dearer food and drink as living expenses surge.

Nonetheless, this local travel expert experiences things differently, specifically highlighting the incredible value he discovered for a full English breakfast in Los Cristianos’ LA TASCA 7. For just €4.60 [£3.90], his substantial meal comprised two bacon rashers, a duo of sausages, double toast, a tomato, and twin fried eggs – minus baked beans due to personal preference.

The sizeable feast, served on a “big plate” complete with HP sauce and enjoyed against the backdrop of the ocean, came at what he hailed an unbelievable bargain. He exclaimed: “That’s the price of one pint in the UK and I’ve got a full English breakfast, in the sun, for [the same price].”

In his post, he mused: “How do they even make money selling it this cheap?”.

Eager commenters chimed in with their experiences of Tenerife’s inexpensive culinary delights. One replied: “Prices are good in Tenerife. I can’t see how people say it’s dear… You can find a pint for €1.50 [£1.26] and a breakfast for €3 [£2.52]… and we absolutely love it.”

Someone else shared their own pleasant memories: “We went there after the markets and it was so nice! Nice spot to people watch, enjoy the view, and was super cheap compared to most other places.”

Yet another person observed: “Not bad the price, over here you can’t get it for under 8 euros and it’s not even that decent.”

The consensus wasn’t unanimous though. One detractor noted: “It used to be cheap for Brits. Not anymore,” while someone else mentioned: “It’s not like that in all of Spain, in Tenerife the taxes are way lower then the rest of Spain, don’t expect those prices everywhere.”

Meanwhile, the choice of an English breakfast abroad sparked some banter among users. One teased: “You in Tenerife and eating English breakfast? You okay?”, as another showed amusement at the dining decision: “It always baffles me why people go to an exotic country to order an English breakfast.”

The lack of beans on his plate also caught attention. “Can’t trust no one that don’t like beans that’s diabolical,” quipped a commenter.

A different user simply inquired: “How can anybody not like beans”.
