Livid Brits take ‘sunbed wars to a whole new level’ with sneaky 2am tactics

By staff3 June 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Mandy Boyd and her friends spotted a group of lads trying to reserve the best sunbeds in the early hours of the morning at their hotel in Spain – so decided to foil their sneaky plan

12:06, 03 Jun 2025Updated 14:20, 03 Jun 2025

A group of irate holidaymakers thwarted a cunning plan by fellow Brits to bag sunbeds seven hours before their hotel pool opened on a recent Spain holiday.

While having a late-night chinwag on their balcony, Mandy Boyd spotted some lads she thought were having a cheeky swim in the pool. But upon closer inspection, the 34 year old realised the young men were trying to nab the best beds at 2am, despite the fact that the pool wasn’t due to open until 9am the next day.

The quartet of girls watched as the lads dragged out their sunloungers to try and secure prime spots. Mandy and her mates patiently waited on the balcony for the perfect moment to dash down and swipe the towels.

The comical sunbed wars sabotage took place around 2am at the Aquasol Aparthotel, Palmanova, near Magaluf, Spain.

Joined by her mate, Sally Willows, the pair dashed down to the pool and swiftly grabbed the towels. “We’re just doing the Lord’s work,” Mandy from Bridgend, South Wales, told Luxury Travel Daily. “I can’t stand it when people reserve sunbeds and don’t use them all day.

“I find it really inconsiderate. It was shocking to see them reserving beds at 2am, especially when there was no chance of those lads being up to enjoy them. We kept the towels, but made sure we left them where they would find them.”

Fellow holidaymakers applauded the girls’ thwarting of the sun bed wars. Jo Townsend said: “Guarantee they wouldn’t have come down to the pool until about 11am as well.”

Sue chimed in with a cheeky comment, “You have taken sunbed wars to a whole new level.” Meanwhile tourist Jaynie praised the antics, saying, “Well done ladies.”

Fellow sunseeker Lou also couldn’t hide her astonishment, exclaiming, “B*oody hell girls, this is taking sunbed wars too far.”

Another onlooker suggested with a hint of mischief, “You should’ve left a ransom note.”

The ‘sunbed wars’ have become a classic – videos of people frantically rushing to get their towels down on sunloungers by the pool regularly emerge during the peak holiday seasons. Tensions arise when people leave their towels on sunbeds but don’t return for hours at a time, leaving other holidaymakers unable to enjoy the pool despite there being empty beds.

Just recently, holidaymakers were spotted using a sneaky tactic before the pool staff had even laid out the loungers, with other tourists slamming the “pathetic” behaviour. Meanwhile in Spain, there have been a number of measures introduced to stop the practice on beaches including hefty fines for rule-breakers.

Police will also remove items from the beaches that are left unattended for hours, so tourists will then need to head to a municipal depot to get their belongings back. The rules aren’t just for those laying out a towel, but apply to anyone who is trying to keep a spot unattended for over three hours.
