Tesco has launched a brand new feature to its Clubcard loyalty scheme, which will give shoppers more chances to collect points.

From today, shoppers with electric cars can now earn Clubcard points when they charge their them at Tesco. Shoppers earn one Clubcard point for every pound spent on charging at Pod’s Vauxhall-branded chargers at supermarket stores.

The Tesco Clubcard points earned during the charge are then credited into a shopper’s Clubcard account within seven days of being billed for the session.

Tesco first partnered with Pod back in 2019, and today, the firm operates more than 2,600 EV charging bays at more than 600 Tesco Extra and Superstore car parks across the UK. The charger points are made up of:

  • 7kW fast chargers which cost 44p/kWh
  • 22kW chargers which cost 49p/kWh
  • 50kW rapids which cost 62p/kWh
  • 75kW rapids which cost 69p/kWh

You can find your local charging bay through Tesco’s store locator tool on its website here.

To celebrate the new offer, electric vehicle drivers can now also get 2,500 Clubcard points by signing up to Pod’s all-inclusive home charging subscription, “Pod Drive” as a new customer.

The 2,500 points are worth £25 when converted into Clubcard Vouchers to spend at Tesco, or £50 when doubled in value with more than 100 Clubcard Reward Partners.

Customers can start their orders through the offer page on Pod Drive’s website to access the Clubcard points deal. As part of the sign-up process, they will also need to sign into their Tesco Clubcard account to link their order, so that their Clubcard points can be credited once their home charger is successfully installed.

Tesco’s Group Membership and Loyalty Director Shama Wilson said: “Our customers have long been able to collect points on fuel from Tesco, but with an increasing number of drivers switching to electric vehicles we are delighted that shoppers will now be able to collect Clubcard points when they charge their cars at our stores, thanks to our exciting partnership with Pod.

“You can now park at your local Tesco and top-up your electric vehicle while you shop, in the knowledge that you are collecting Clubcard points towards a future Tesco shop or to exchange with one of our Reward Partners.”

Pod’s CEO Melanie Lane added: “We’re thrilled to deepen our longstanding partnership with Tesco and provide an incentive for Clubcard members to make the switch to an EV and join over a quarter million customers that trust Pod with their charging needs.

“We know that the more that EVs blend with peoples’ everyday routines, the more it makes sense to go electric, and with our unique partnership we’re able to align drivers’ charging experiences across both home and public charging points.

“Fresh from repositioning the business as Pod and launching Pod Drive, we’re committed to building momentum and bringing our brilliant partners on our mission; to make EV charging easy and affordable for everyone.”

How do I earn Clubcard points?

Clubcard members can build up points when they shop at Tesco, and there is a range of ways you can do this. You get:

  • One Clubcard point for every £1 spent in stores and online
  • One point for every two litres of fuel bought from Tesco forecourts
  • One point for every £1 spent on Tesco Mobile
  • One point for every £4 spent on a Tesco credit card, and
  • One point for every £1 spent using a Tesco Clubcard Pay+ debit card

Once you have collected enough Clubcard points, you can then convert them into vouchers. The minimum number of points you need is 150 – which will give you a voucher of £1.50. Once you have converted your points to vouchers they last for two years. Tesco currently has over 100 Reward Partners including Disney+, Thorpe Park, Alton Towers, Pizza Express, Legoland, Hotels.com, and Zizzi.

To redeem your Clubcard points with partners, you have to turn them into vouchers, and then into Partner Reward codes. If you choose to use them for a Rewards Partner, you get double the value of your points, so 500 points would be worth £5 in-store but £10 when spent with a Rewards Partner.

Under the rules, you can’t collect Clubcard points on tobacco or tobacco-related products, lottery, stamps, prescription medicines, infant formula milk, Tesco gift cards, third party gift cards, saving stamps, in-store concessions, Paypoint payments or purchases of some Tesco Bank products.
