Police have arrested the flatmate of missing teenager Pheobe Bishop as an investigation into her disappearance continues.
James Wood, 34, was arrested outside a car showroom today amid the ongoing probe. Pheobe, 17, was reported missing after failing to turn up for a scheduled flight three weeks ago. She was planning to fly to Perth to spend time with her boyfriend, but failed to check in, and was not seen at Bundaberg Airport. Her family and friends have not heard from her since, and police say her bank accounts have not been accessed. Her sudden disappearance has made national headlines in Australia, and sparked a huge national campaign to find her.
Her housemates, James Wood and Tanika Bromley, are thought to be the last people to see her alive.
Police today confirmed that Wood had been taken in for questioning over her whereabouts, but has not been charged.
Physical searches for Pheobe have been suspended.
A Queensland Police spokesperson said: “There are currently no physical searches for Pheobe at this stage, however physical searches will happen as needed and as information is provided”
Kylie Johnson, Pheobe’s mum, told 9 News this week that she still held “hope” that her daughter would come home, but admitted had to “consider the possibility that she won’t.”
She added: “If the worst case scenario has happened, I at least need to know where she is resting.”
