The opening night of Beyonce’s London leg of her tour failed to sell out with large chunks of empty seats visible of the songstress gave her all to those in attendance
Beyonce’s London takeover hasn’t started as she’d have hoped with the songstress left to sing to patches of empty seats on the first night. Queen Bey kicked off her show in the UK tonight as her Cowboy Carter tour’s six dates in the capital get under way.
However, despite the huge attention to the concerts at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Single Ladies star has failed to sell out the opening night. And that comes despite many cut-price offers in the run-up to the show.
The 62,000 capacity venue is set to host every date Beyonce has on her UK leg of the tour. She will then move on to Paris before heading back home to the states.
But those in the crowd on Thursday were stunned to see so many empty seats for the icon’s first night. Images from inside the stadium showed large sections of empty seats clearly visible. It’s thought the main area of emptiness in question was the restricted view options.
It was a far cry from her 2023 Renaissance world tour. Two years ago, the UK leg sold out within minutes of going on sale.
But despite the inability to sell out, the former Destiny’s Child singer put on a memorable performance. One user on Twitter/X gushed: “London crowd took over Irreplaceable and Bey just stood there soaking it in smiling. Beyoncé didn’t even have to lift a mic. y’all gave her flowers with your voices. ICONIC.”
Another added: “Beyoncé is killing it tonight. Wow. Even in the damp weather. UK is definitely getting the best show so far.”
Those who did get their tickets were so eager to see their superstar that some began queuing outside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at 4am on Wednesday.
During her performance, fans were loving it as Bey and Jay-Z’s daughters Blue Ivy and Rumi appeared on stage with her. Rumi, seven, was seen waving to fans as her mum sang to her adoring crowd.
Beyonce sang Protector while Rumi was stood beside her. She was spotted singing along to the tune before her mum took her face in a sweet embrace.
After tonight’s successful show, Beyoncé will now go on to perform on June 7, 10, 12, 14, and 16, following a string of dates across America, where she had performed tracks from her eighth studio album.
Anyone attending the remaining shows is being urged to remember to follow strict rules. The stadium will open at 5pm, with the bar closing at 10.30pm – one hour before the stadium closes. However, it’s the bag policy that everybody should be aware of.
Personal bags are not allowed to be any bigger than A4 in size (21cm x 30cm high). Those in attendance are able to use a clear carrier bag (maximum size 30cm long and 30cm high). You also mustn’t put any personal bags that do not meet the regulated sizes inside those bags, though.
