New Look shutting another high street shop this weekend leaving shoppers ‘so sad’

New Look will be closing another one of its high street branches this weekend in a blow to shoppers. The fashion retailer will be pulling down the shutters of one of its branches in Birmingham on Sunday, June 8.

The shop – which is situated in the city’s Northfield shopping centre – announced the closure to customers through a sign in the window of the store.

This said: “Thanks for having us, Northfield. This store will be closing on Sunday 8th June. Don’t worry, you’ll still be able to find us at Newlook.com with 100s of new styles dropped every week! Scan to download our app for exclusive offers.”

In the lead up to Sunday’s closure, the retailer has launched a major closing-down sale, with prices slashed by up to 70%.

The retailer has not confirmed the reason behind the move, it is also uncertain how many staff members will be impacted or whether anyone has been issued a redundancy notice.

However, it is important to note that retailers close stores for a variety of reasons, and it doesn’t just mean they are in trouble. Some close because the tenancy has come to an end on the site, or because the branch is not as profitable as others.

Local shoppers took to social media to express their anger at New Look’s move. Abigail Smith, a community campaigner for Northfield, posted about the pending closure on her Facebook page. She wrote, “Saddened to see another store close in Northfield Shopping Centre this Sunday.

“The lack of investment and support for local businesses has led to boarded-up shops and a diminishing sense of community.

“It’s disheartening to see our high street, once bustling with life, now struggling to survive. We urge local authorities and residents alike to come together and find solutions to revitalise Northfield High Street before we lose more of what makes our community special.”

Other shoppers reiterated the feelings with one person commenting: “Another shop gone in Northfield, need to get out there’s nothing left no more.” A second said: “Shocking to see. What is our local councillors and MP doing to bring shops back?” While a third added: “It’s so so sad.”

A fourth shared: “So sad to see what used to be a busy packed shopping centre look like a ghost town. I worked in Lloyds Bank 20 years ago and remember Northfield being incredibly busy it’s sad to see another shop go.”
