The tourist is believed to have died in a drunken fall in the Algarve holiday resort in Portugal just days after a Scottish tourist was found dead in the same location
A British tourist has been found “naked” and dead in the party resort of Albufeira just days after a Scottish man was found dead in the same area.
The man in the latest incident is thought to have crashed down steps while drunk in the holiday resort’s Old Town in Portugal’s Algarve. The alarm was raised just before 7am on Wednesday, with news of the incident only emerging today. Respected Portuguese daily Correo da Manha reports the tourist was “completely naked” when he was found at the bottom of the steps in an avenue called Avenida da Libertade. An autopsy has already taken place but the results have not been made public.
Portuguese police are understood to have ruled out any link to a crime and are treating the death as a tragedy linked to excessive alcohol consumption. It was not immediately clear today where the tourist, who is aged in his 20s, had been heading from and to.
No explanation has been given as to why he might have been naked, although police have not yet confirmed he had no clothes on. On Wednesday the body of a Scottish tourist who had been missing for seven days after vanishing during a night out in Albufeira was found.
Greg Monks, 38, from Glasgow, had been gone out drinking at bars in the raucous Albufeira strip after flying to the resort hours earlier with friends for a stag do. He is thought to have jumped over a wall and fallen down a steep cliff after becoming disorientated as he tried to head back to his holiday hotel.
Albufeira came into the spotlight earlier this week following Greg’s death. Authorities have investigated possible paths he might have taken before falling to his death.
The Mirror previously reported a well-placed source in the police said: “There is nothing at this stage to indicate this man’s death was linked in any way to a crime. But we need to wait for the autopsy results to conclude that is the case.”
He added: “Our belief is he lost all notion of where he was after drinking heavily and finding himself in an unfamiliar place, and that he jumped over a wall and fell to his death. The body was already in a state of decomposition when it was found.”
The last known photo of Greg shows him smiling while out wearing a dark-coloured Nike top and dark trousers. It is believed the snap was taken before Greg and his pals left the Novochoro Apartments hotel and made their way down to pubs in Albufeira.
Greg had been in a relationship with girlfriend Nicole Kelso, with the tourist having even made a public declaration of love to his long-term partner on his Instagram profile. Nicole went on to use her own social media platforms to appeal for information about his whereabouts.
