I created a personalised skincare routine with this £34 at-home skin analysis tool

By staff8 June 2025No Comments5 Mins Read

The Beautypro skin analysis device gives you an accurate reading on what your skin needs to help you tailor your skincare routine to suit your complexion – and it’s on sale for £34

If you’ve ever had a fancy facial, you’ll know that one of the most fascinating parts is when your beautician analyses your skin and determines exactly what your skin needs. Although these types of analysis can be pricey, I spotted this brilliant affordable version that you can do from the comfort of your home and decided to put it to the test.

As someone with chronically dry skin I’m always looking for ways to improve my skin’s condition, and the Beautypro Hydratest Skin Analysis Device was exactly what I needed to elevate my skincare routine. It helps determine your skin’s oil and hydration levels, allowing you to alter your skincare products according to what your skin needs, and lets you keep track of any improvements.

One of the best initial things about the Hydratest is how compact it is. It’s no bigger than a regular marker pen, so it’s easy to store in your bathroom cabinet or in a drawer or shelf without taking up too much space. It also could not be easier to use.

The device is small enough to pop in a drawer and comes with a chart to measure your results(Image: Faith Richardson)

You simply press the measurement button, let it do a quick self test, then it’s good to go. You then just press it into your skin in whatever area you want to test until it beeps, and the rounded ball tips will read your skin and give you your results – all in under three seconds.

The Hydratest Skin Analysis Device has a clear, easy to read display that shows you what hydration percentage your skin has as well as an oil level guide, so you can see where your skin falls. There’s also a handy chart which comes with it that lets you make sense of your readings, so you can see which areas your skin needs improving on.

Its price is also a huge selling point; it’s one of the most affordable on the market. Currently Sephora has it on sale down from £49 to £34.30.

If you do want something super advanced, this Professional Skin Analyzer Machine is a whopping £1438. The MASKOLOGY Skin Analyser is also very similar to Beautypro’s, and priced at £49. The Boddceto Woods Lamp Skin Analyzer is £35.62, but it requires much more faffing around (including getting your hands on a medical grade magnifying glass).

My review of the Beautypro Hydratest Skin Analysis Device

It’ll come as no surprise that my dry skin ranked at around 33% hydration levels, which is dry. Certain areas, like around my temples and forehead, were as low as 27% – which immediately told me those needed more attention when it came to my serums and moisturisers.

This is a super simple and effective way of getting a good reading (quite literally) on your skin, although if I had to nitpick it would be brilliant if there was some kind of app or something which could offer skincare suggestions. However, the simplicity of this is also its strength; you can quickly grab it and use it in seconds, and it’s ideal for giving you some direction in your skincare regime.

I tried it again after a week of careful moisturising, adding extra hydrating products to my routine and upping my water intake, and the Hydratest Skin Analysis Device did show an improvement. It wasn’t drastic, but considering it takes around a month for new skin cells to renew I’d be shocked if it was a dramatic increase. However I loved that it showed me I was heading in the right direction.

This will definitely become a handy tool in my skincare arsenal, and considering you’d usually only have access to this type of info by spending big money or as part of a professional facial, it was fab. It currently only has one review on Sephora, but it’s a positive five star one.

They said: “Bought this after attending a Tropic skincare event where they used similar devices so I thought I’d give it a go. Very impressed with it certainly better in quality than the cheap £15 ones on Amazon! Keep a regular check on your hydration levels, could be used in a beauty business too.”

You can shop Beautypro’s Hydratest Skin Analysis Device for £34.30 (down from £49) now.
