Cardiologist issues message to 4 types of people who should take magnesium supplements

A cardiologist has revealed that some people can benefit from taking a certain supplement to help boost their energy levels and health

A top cardiologist has advised certain individuals to take magnesium supplements daily. Doctor Aurelio Rojas said about the patients he observes in his practice: “If you are one of these people you should take magnesium.

“As a cardiologist, I see it daily. Magnesium deficiency is more common than we think and can cause fatigue, anxiety, muscle tension, palpitations or difficulty sleeping.” Dr Rojas suggests taking magnesium could be the answer if you’re experiencing such issues.

Who is advised to take magnesium supplements?

The leading cardiac scientist points out that people prone to magnesium deficiencies are those who experience high levels of stress. He explained that increased cortisol can shift your body’s metabolism in ways that deplete magnesium faster, reports Surrey Live.

“Taking it externally will improve the oxidative phosphorylation of your cells that obtain better energy and that help you feel stronger,” he advises.

For those struggling with sleep disturbances, magnesium might offer relief. The doctor notes: “Supplementing with magnesium not only improves neuronal function and relaxation, but also promotes the endogenous secretion of melatonin, the hormone that our body uses to regulate rest,” states the expert.

There are two other groups he recommends for taking these supplements – athletes and those who suffer from a chronic disease, according to elconfidencial. “These two types of people need to get energy in a much more efficient way, whether it’s to perform in sport, to recover better, or to fight their illnesses. And magnesium will help you with that,” he emphasised.

The supplement not only enhances physical performance but also aids muscle recovery and helps maintain immune system balance – both vital for athletic training and long-term disease management.

How do I take magnesium supplements the right way?

The cardiologist revealed one excellent method of ensuring maximum absorption of magnesium. He disclosed that the “best, most bioavailable forms are magnesium, citrate and bisglycinate.”

However, he warned that there may be side effects. “To promote its absorption and reduce these adverse effects, especially diarrhoea, you should take it with plenty of water.”

When should I take magnesium?

In his final piece of advice, he suggested taking it between 1 to 1.5 hours before bedtime, particularly for those aiming to enhance their sleep quality. While natural products and supplements can boost health and well-being, their effectiveness depends on the individual, their physical conditions and any existing medical issues, he notes, urging people to stay safe if they’re taking supplements.
