Woman makes cheeky house move request and blocks pal when he refuses

A man opted for a “brilliant” dose of petty revenge after an old friend got in touch with him not to rekindle their friendship but to take advantage of his van while she moved house

A man has been lauded for delivering a “brilliant” helping of petty revenge to an old friend who contacted him out of the blue not to reconnect, but to take advantage of his van during her house move. Moving house is a stressful ordeal that demands patience and organisation, plus it can be quite costly.

If you’re lucky, friends and family are available to assist with packing and unpacking but this isn’t always the case so, sometimes, professional movers need to be hired. If you’re in touch with someone who owns a van or other similar large vehicle, it can be very tempting to turn to them for help – something one man has experienced first-hand.

On Reddit, he shared that an old friend had recently reached out to him only to ask for his assistance as she was moving house. When she realised things weren’t going as she’d hoped, she decided to cut ties completely.

In a post titled, ‘My friend asked me to help her move then got mad I didn’t bring my truck’, the man explained he has a pickup truck which is “old but reliable”.

He’s found that many people only contact him when they’re planning to move house or need a large van for other reasons.

He said: “This “friend” from college DMs me [out of] nowhere like, ‘Hey!! You free this Saturday? Need help moving. You’re the besttt!'”

The man told the woman he could pop round “for a bit”, but he showed up in his trusty Honda Civic and not his van, as she was expecting.

Upon seeing the car, she looked him “up and down” and asked where his van was. The man told her his van was at home and emphasised: “You didn’t ask for the truck. You asked for help.”

The woman was unimpressed and scoffed at him before asking: “Well what good is your help without your truck?”

But the man had a quick retort. He said to her: “Same energy as asking someone to help paint, then getting mad they didn’t bring a whole-a** ladder.”

This left the woman speechless while he helped with “three light boxes” before informing her “good luck with the rest” and swiftly making an exit. He then confirmed his action were enough for the woman to cut ties with him: “She unfollowed me that night.”

Reddit users flooded the comments section of his post with their views. One user succinctly stated: “Brilliant!”

Another said: “[For real though], people act like owning a truck means you signed up for free U-Haul duties”.

A third user, who has endured similar experiences, commented: “I had a truck in England. I had soooo many friends I didn’t even know about!”

And another observed with sarcasm: “It helps you stay in touch with relatives, like once every five years when they need something, like they are moving.”

Sharing a parallel story, a different user added: “I displayed an aptitude for computers as a child, the random tech support requests haven’t stopped since. I’m in my forties.”
