Jamie Oliver’s recipe for potato scones, or as they’re more commonly known in Scotland, tattie scones, couldn’t be simpler. Just combine the ingredients to form a dough and cook for a few minutes to create a scrumptious side dish.

The celebrity chef’s recipe serves two to four people and can be paired with eggs, bacon or salmon for a quick and healthy breakfast. On his official website, Jamie shared: “You see potato scones quite a lot in Scotland, Ireland and Wales, served for breakfast with bacon and eggs, afternoon tea with butter and jam or supper with smoked salmon.”

According to the website, this dish can be prepared in just half an hour and is “super easy” to whip up, reports the Express.

Jamie Oliver’s potato scones recipe

Ingredients

  • 250g floury potatoes
  • 25g unsalted butter, plus extra for greasing
  • 50g plain flour
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder

Instructions

After cooking the potatoes, drain them and mash with butter until smooth and creamy. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and a generous pinch of salt.

Add the warm mashed potato mixture to the dry ingredients and gently mix it in with a spoon or your fingers until it forms a cohesive dough. Split the dough into two equal parts and shape them into balls.

Place the balls on a surface lightly dusted with flour and roll each one out into a flat circle about five millimetres thick. Use a fork to prick the dough all over to create holes, then cut each circle into four wedges.

Warm a griddle pan over medium heat. Once it’s heated, lightly oil it with a bit of butter.

Gently place the potato scones in batches on the pan and fry for 3-4 minutes each side, until they become a lovely golden brown hue.
