Paul Ince charged with drink driving after ‘Range Rover crashes into central reservation’

Paul Ince has been charged with drink driving after the 57-year-old former Manchester United and England midfielder crashed his Range Rover into the central reservation

Former Manchester United and England star Paul Ince has been charged with drink driving.

The 57-year-old former midfielder crashed his Range Rover into the central reservation near Neston, in Cheshire, on Saturday evening.

Police attended the scene and arrested him – and later charged him with drink driving. He will appear before Chester Magistrates next month.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police told Mirror Football: “At around 5pm on Saturday 28 June, police were called following reports of a collision on Chester High Road, Neston.

“The incident involved a black Range Rover which had collided with the central reservation barrier. Officers attended the scene and arrested a 57-year-old man.

“Paul Ince, of Neston, has since been charged with drink driving. Ince has been bailed to appear at Chester Magistrates’ Court on Friday 18 July.”

The crash happened near Heswall Golf Club – a location where Ince has previously posted pictures from on Instagram.

Ince played for West Ham, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Liverpool, Middlesbrough and Wolves during a distinguished career spanning from 1986 to 2007.

His most successful spell as a player came at United, where he won two Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the League Cup under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ince won 53 caps for England, playing at Euro 1996, the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 and was the first black man to captain the Three Lions.

After retiring, he embarked upon a career in management, which took him to Macclesfield, MK Dons, Blackburn, Notts County, Blackpool and Reading.

He left his last role at Reading in 2023 and has been without a club ever since. Ince has also worked in the media as a pundit for the likes of Sky Sports and still regularly speaks about Premier League football, especially his former team United.

His son, Tom, currently plays for Watford as a winger, having previously turned out for his father at Reading.
