Police confirmed they recovered a body from water on Sunday during the search for a missing teenager – it comes after emergency services received a missing person report in Loch Ore on Saturday

Police searching for a missing teenager who vanished while paddleboarding have discovered a body in Scotland.

Emergency services rushed to Loch Ore, in Lochore Meadows, Lochgelly, after receiving a report of “concern” when the boy was spotted in the water on Saturday afternoon. Police launched a frantic search to find the 15-year-old following the report which came in shortly after 5pm.

As part of the search, a coastguard helicopter was deployed alongside coastguard rescue teams from St Andrews, Queensferry and Leven. Temporary air space restrictions were put in place in the Lochore Meadows area in response to the incident.

Police said restrictions applied to all aircrafts including drones. In an initial statement, Police Scotland said: “Around 5.25pm on Saturday, 28 June, 2025 we were called to Loch Ore Meadows, Lochgelly after receiving a report of concern for a male who had been paddleboarding.

“Emergency services, including the Coastguard, are in attendance and extensive searches are being carried out. Enquiries are ongoing and we would ask people to please avoid the area if possible.”

Sadly, the force issued a tragic update and said the body of a male was recovered from water on Sunday. Formal identification is yet to take place. However, the boy’s parents have been informed

Police added that there are not thought be any suspicious circumstances, and that a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

It comes as temperatures have continued to soar across the country, with sunseekers visiting local beauty spots to cool down. On Sunday, temperatures are expected to reach 22C in Loch Ore.

Police Scotland’s statement today read: “Around 1.20pm on Sunday, 29 June, 2025, the body of a male youth was recovered from the water at Lochore Meadows, Crosshill, Fife.

“Formal identification has yet to take place however the family of a 15-year-old paddle boarder reported missing on Saturday, 28 June, have been informed.

“There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
