Gardeners urged to plant 5 flowers to keep butterflies returning all summer

Gardening experts are urging households to plant these five plants to keep butterflies around during the summer time, and it only takes a couple of minutes from your day.

Butterflies are a symbol of a healthy eco-system in your garden and there’s no denying their beautiful colours make them alluring to watch.

As explained by gardening expert Harry Bodell at PriceYourJob.co.uk, gardener experts and amateurs can turn their outdoor spaces into a paradise for butterflies by planting flowers out winged-insects like to pollenate.

He explained: “Flowers are vital in bringing butterflies to your garden as they provide nectar, their primary food source for keeping their energy up. Butterflies get drawn to vibrant colours such as red, orange, yellow and purple, and they can see ultraviolet light reflected by petals.”

Butterflies are mostly seen during the spring through autumn, which is why they’re spotted flying around green spaces. During the summer months – June, July and August – they’re seen because of the high temperatures and the long hours of sunshine, which are the perfect time for them to find nutrients and also, to multiply.

However, even though the summer and dry weather can be beneficial, butterflies need to keep themselves well hydrated and fed to live for as long as possible.

They’re also attracted to various flowers, especially if they’ve got bright colours and are nectar-rich. This is because they associate them with food, and are also visually appealing compared to other flowers that might have darker tones.

These beautiful creatures are attracted to vibrant colours like orange, red, purple and yellow. Interestingly, they can also see ultraviolet light reflected by petals. Other factors are nectar, smell and its shape.

For this reason, gardeners are now being advised to plant these five flowers to revive their garden spaces. Doing this will ensure that they come back throughout the hot season and potentially a little longer. Even better, these plants have a lot of benefits that are great for other wildlife and humans.

Butterflies appear during the springtime and leave in autumn when the flowers are growing sparse, and the temperatures begin to cool down.

To attract them during the summer, gardeners will need a consistent source of nectar for them to feed on. By doing so, it will provide a variety for butterflies to receive the necessary nutrients to thrive all year round.

By following this advice and planting these five flowers, gardeners can rest assured that their garden will remain as beautiful and vibrant throughout the summer months.
