A 21-year-old man has brutally knifed a colleague to death and seriously injured two others with police and other emergency services at the scene in the Bavarian city of Mellrichstadt in Germany
A man allegedly stabbed to death a colleague by knifing her in the neck and seriously injured two others.
Police and emergency services rushed to the scene of the brutal stabbing in Germany where a 21-year-old suspect allegedly attacked several fellow colleagues with a knife when he went to the workplace this morning at 7.30am. The suspect, confirmed as a German national, has been taken into custody and police have said that a woman, aged 59, has tragically died.
The incident took place at energy company Überlandwerk Rhön in Mellrichstadt in the state of Bavaria where 220 people are employed.. It is still unclear who is the suspect but it has now been revealed that he worked for the company which supplies electricity to the region.
The dead woman suffered multiple stab wounds to his upper body, including her neck. “Caring for the injured is our top priority, as is clarifying the exact circumstances of the crime,” said a police spokesperson with an investigation now underway and the knife seized by detectives.
“There is currently a police operation in Mellrichstadt. Colleagues, along with the emergency services, are on site with a large presence. The suspect is already in police custody. There is no danger to bystanders,” a police statement posted on X read.
“A man, already in custody, injured a total of four people from a company on Sondheimer Straße with a sharp object, some seriously. The care of the injured is being facilitated by a large deployment of emergency services.”
An update said that one person had died and that there were two others injured. It stated: “One person has died at the scene due to their severe injuries. Contrary to the initial report, there are two additional seriously injured individuals. The suspect, a 21-year-old German national, is in police custody.
“The circumstances of the incident are currently still unclear. Our criminal police have begun their work on-site and are investigating with high urgency. The 21-year-old suspect, the 59-year-old deceased, and the two seriously injured individuals aged 55 and 62 are employees of the company. The alleged weapon, a knife, has been seized.”
A contact point for relatives and the public has been set up in the Oskar-Herbig-Halle on Bahnhofstraße. A police statement added: “The Schweinfurt Criminal Investigation Department has taken over the investigation into the events and possible causes on site, and is conducting these investigations in close coordination with the public prosecutor’s office. A senior public prosecutor from the Schweinfurt public prosecutor’s office is also on site.”
