A ceasefire in Gaza could be at hand after the US President revealed that Israel had agreed to the ‘necessary conditions’ to bring about a 60-day pause in hostilities
US President Donald Trump has revealed a major step towards ending Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza, which this week saw 23 people, including women and children, killed in a strike on a busy cafe.
In a surprise announcement, the US President has said that Israel’s government has agreed to the required terms of an internationally negotiated 60-day ceasefire in the conflict. However, he had a stark warning for Hamas.
While the requisites of the ceasefire deal have not been released, Trump said that he hopes Hamas will agree to the terms “for the good of the Middle East,” but warned that “it will not get better, it will only get worse,” if the proscribed terror group do not take the deal on the table.
Taking to his social media platform, President Trump revealed that US negotiators “had a long and productive meeting with the Israelis” on Tuesday, with a focus on the war being perpetrated in Gaza.

He announced that Israel had agreed to “the necessary conditions” to finalise a “60 day ceasefire” in the occupied territories, as part of a “final proposal” that has been negotiated by Qatar and Egypt.
Trump signalled that he hoped this deal would help to bring about an end to Israel’s war, which Gaza’s Health Ministry says has killed at least 56,531 people since Hamas launched the terror attacks of October 7.
President Trump’s full statement on TruthSocial: “My Representatives had a long and productive meeting with the Israelis today on Gaza. Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize the 60 Day CEASEFIRE, during which time we will work with all parties to end the War.
“The Qataris and Egyptians, who have worked very hard to help bring Peace, will deliver this final proposal.
“I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
This major development comes just ahead of a scheduled meeting between Trump and Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu nexrt week, where the US President has said he will be “very firm” with his close ally over the need for a swift resolution to the Israel-Hamas war.
Speaking to reporters earlier, Trump had said of the talks: ‘We hope it’s going to happen. And we’re looking forward to it happening sometime next week. We want to get the hostages out.”
But ahead of this meeting, the Mail reports Israeli official Ron Dermer has been in Washington to iron out ceasefire proposals before the talks on Monday, July 7.
He met with many of the Trump administration’s key players on the Middle East, US special envoy Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance. Then early on Tuesday evening, the President told the world that Israel has agreed to the ceasefire conditions.
While the details of the plan are not public, one of the red lines in negotiations is the return of all hostages that were taken on October 7, with 50 Israelis believed to still be held in Gaza. Only 20 are understood to still be alive.
