Clacton murder update as police picture son, 24, who admits killing own mum

Oliver Grange, 24, admitted to killing his mum Rachel Dixon, 49, in Clacton, Essex, earlier this year and is due to be sentenced next month following an investigation

A man has admitted to murdering his own mum who was found injured at home, as police release a picture of him for the first time.

24-year-old Oliver Grange admitted to killing his mum Rachel Dixon, 49, in Clacton, Essex, at his home address of of Skelmersdale Avenue on March 21. Essex Police were called after Ms Dixon was seriously injured and, despite being rushed to hospital by air ambulance, the mum was pronounced dead on arrival. Officers located a Grange and arrested him on suspicion of murder, with an investigation launched by detectives from Essex Police’s serious crime directorate.

The 24-year-old was also taken to hospital suffering from serious injuries at the time of her death, but police said he was hurt in a separate incident. Grange admitted the single charge of murder after sppearing at Chelmsford Crown Court last Thursday (June 26).

Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood, who led the investigation, said: “Our thoughts remain with Rachel’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. We know this loss is felt widely. I hope the defendant’s decision to plead guilty to this heinous crime will help Rachel’s loved ones as they move forward.”

Rachel’s family previously paid tribute: “Our beautiful daughter, sister, mother and auntie, who will be greatly missed by all who was taken away from us far too soon. Please respect our privacy at this time”

Detective Chief Inspector Rob Huddleston said at the time: “Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the woman who sadly died today. We know how concerning this incident will be to the local community and I can assure you that we are working diligently to understand exactly what happened.

“Our officers were on the scene within five minutes of the call coming into to us and worked with our colleagues from the ambulance service to try and help the woman. We will be in the area in the coming days. Please come and speak to us if you have any concerns or information.”

Grange was remanded into custody and will be sentenced at the same court in August.
