Brits urged to ditch pan for cooking pasta and replace with common item

Pasta is a versatile dish that can be tailored to suit any taste. And while it’s a great option for those times when you need to rustle up something quick, it can sometimes feel like it takes forever to cook.

Pasta is a dish that never gets old. Whether it’s a spicy tomato ragu or a creamy white wine sauce, the options are endless, providing countless ways to enjoy it.

With work taking up most of our time, there’s no worse feeling than coming home after a tiring day and having to spend time aside cooking dinner. Cooking pasta is very straightforward and a top pick for those busy weeknights when you’re pressed for time. However, while pasta doesn’t typically take long to cook, waiting for water to boil in a pot can add extra minutes.

However, experts have suggested a quicker alternative – and it involves another kitchen staple. The experts at Allrecipes recommend using a frying pan for speedier pasta cooking.

Though it might sound odd, you can actually cook pasta and rustle up a sauce at the same time in one pan, cutting down on the washing-up, reports the Express. Not only does it same some time, but it also minimises the washing afterwards – so it’s a win-win.

There’s a wealth of one-pan pasta recipes out there, but if you’re looking for something simple and delicious, this recipe is Taming Twins is the ‘easiest tomato pasta ever’ and is a great place to start if you’re looking to try a new flavour. Here’s how to do it, and it will only take less than half an hour.

Ingredients

  • 350g spaghetti
  • 400g tinned tomatoes
  • One large onion, sliced
  • Four cloves garlic, peeled and sliced
  • Two tbsp olive oil
  • Four tbsp pesto
  • Three tbsp tomato puree
  • One litre vegetable stock
  • One tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 200g cherry tomatoes
  • 75g grated parmesan

Method

Grab a lidded frying pan and toss in spaghetti, tinned tomatoes, onion, garlic, olive oil, pesto, salt and pepper, and stock. Pop the lid on and cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes, until the pasta is nearly done.

Throw in the cherry tomatoes and keep cooking for another three or four minutes until the pasta is just right and the cherry tomatoes are fully cooked. Dish up into bowls, sprinkle with the parmesan cheese and tuck in. Most importantly, enjoy it – yes, that’s it!

The best thing about cooking is that it’s a learning experience. Therefore, don’t be afraid of trying out new things and different cooking methods. Whether you’ve been a chef for a long time or have just begun experimenting with different dishes, one thing that is for sure is that it’s always rewarding!
