Weight loss can often feel like a complicated endeavour. With a rise of information – and misinformation – online, it can become an overwhelming thought for people to even begin.

However, more people are realising there are modern ways using tech to drop weight and stay on top of health goals, such as 30-year-old Becky. She used the WalkFit app and lost 20lbs in eight weeks from walking 11,000 steps a day, eating clean and healthy.

“My weight and overall health has been something I’ve struggled with on and off since my teenager years,” says the New Yorker. “I gained a lot of weight while in college and I’ve been struggling to lose weight and feel really good in my body for way too long now. I knew that I wanted to challenge myself to become the healthiest version of myself by the time I turned 30. This challenge was the best way to dive head first into making that possible.

This all changed when Becky started using WalkFit. She says: “I am most proud that I got my steps in at least five days a week every week. 11K steps is a lot of steps, so I find that pretty impressive. It shows my commitment to the challenge and to myself.”

“I would tell others to just start. If you are not happy where you are, then you need to make a change. Stop wasting time and just get up and start walking,” Becky adds.

WalkFit is a fitness and wellbeing app that emphasises the importance and benefits of walking. Users who sign up can expect personalised walking and weight loss plans tailored to their goals, indoor workouts, step aerobics, treadmill-friendly programs, motivation boosters and a built-in step and calorie tracker to monitor progress.

To use the app, shoppers start their journey by completing a personalised quiz that helps the team understand their fitness goals, lifestyle preferences, and previous experience with training or weight loss. It is available for shoppers on iOS and Android, supports six languages – English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.

The app has an introductory offer price of 61%, which is available for users during the first 10 minutes of the website and applied to the initial payment. Prices start from £6.93 a week or £15.19 for a month-long subscription using the 61% off.

There are other apps to choose from, such as MyFitnessPal, which is an all-in-one food, exercise and calorie tracker that has both free and paid subscription options on the app. Noom is another weight loss app that emphasises healthy lifestyle changes and behavioural psychology, offering personalised plans and support for its users.

Alternatively, there is the Nike Training Club App, which gives access to over 200 free workouts and targeted training programs. This app has been praised by users as ‘really simple to use’.

Customers of the WalkFit app, have rated it highly, as one person said: “I am really enjoying getting out walking every morning. I am not doing it to lose weight, I am doing it to get fit.”

Another said: “Only 21 days in, but along with calorie control, have lost 5.7kg. I find it easy to follow and fit the exercises into my daily schedule. I have paid for subscription which I decided to go with as far less than a gym membership and it motivates me to follow the steps.”

Some, however, didn’t feel it was quite right for them, and shared their experiences on Trustpilot. One person wrote: “I am finding that after a couple of weeks, the workouts are getting rather repetitive and not very exciting!”

But a happier customer said: “A workout program for any activity level. I’m 60+ and have been relatively inactive since the COVID debacle. I’m looking to improve my health and well-being with WalkFit. The workout tutorials you can fit to your schedule and time constraints.”
