Oasis fan fumes they can’t watch band in Cardiff over broken lift at train station

One Oasis fan took to social media to fume over a lift issue at Cardiff Central as he heads to the Welsh capital to watch Noel and Liam Gallagher in their first reunion gigs

One Oasis fan has been left fuming after a broken lift situation in Cardiff has caused chaos for disabled travellers. The band are back together for the first time in years, as Noel and Liam Gallagher put aside their differences after a 16 year-long feud.

The band are performing in Cardiff tomorrow evening for their first live show for years, with fans desperate to get there early to secure the best spot and soak up the atmosphere.

However, things haven’t gone to plan for a number of fans using wheelchairs. One fan expressed their anger on social media: “Imagine not being able to go to watch @oasis at the @principalitysta in #Cardiff as @tfwrail have a lift out of order so wheelchair users cannot get off/on at the train at the capital city of #Wales – absolute shambles, what you think @liamgallagher @NoelGallagher.”

They then told Transport for Wales that they had “spoke to the passenger assistance who stated that the lifts at both Cwmbran and Cardiff Central are out of order so we couldn’t use an electric wheelchair as couldn’t get to/off the platforms”.

Transport for Wales then started that Cwmbran platform 1 (to Cardiff) was accessible via a ramped path from Edlogan Way and that at Cardiff Central the East End lift is “still available for passengers to use for platform 1 & 2”.

The fan then replied to explain he knew about the issues with Cwmbran but said he had been told “by passenger assistance that the lifts at Cardiff were unavailable”.

Oasis’ Cardiff gigs has also caused chaos for wider transport across the city, with a number of road closures. As Cardiff city centre braces for the influx of music fans, significant road closures will be implemented around the capital.

For the Oasis concerts, city centre roads will be shut from midday and are expected to reopen at the stroke of midnight. A Cardiff Council spokesperson said: “The M4 motorway is expected to be very busy for these concerts – so please plan ahead – and avoid the congestion in Cardiff by using the park and ride at the car park by the Vindico Arena on International Drive in the Sports Village.

“For up-to-date traffic information on the motorway and trunk roads, go to the Traffic Wales website, or @TrafficWalesS on Twitter and Facebook.” Concertgoers are being urged to arrive in Cardiff early.

From 7am, Scott Road and Park Street will be shut due to preparations at gate five and to ensure the safety of queuing fans. A full city centre road closure will be in effect on July 4 and 5, commencing at 12noon and lasting until midnight.

Access to certain areas of the civic centre will be regulated throughout the day, with entry permitted only for event parking, limited commuter parking, loading and access to private car parks.

Roads impacted include King Edward VII Avenue, Museum Avenue, City Hall Road, College Road and Gorsedd Gardens Road.
