Spanish ‘Maldives’ with crystal clear water you can fly to for £15

A Spanish resort has been compared to the Maldives and it can be reached with just a two hour flight

A Spanish resort has been dubbed the “Maldives of Spain” and many people have likely never heard of it. While countless holidaymakers flock to the Maldives for its breathtaking beaches and crystal-clear waters, travellers may be able to cut back on both time and costs by choosing a much nearer option.

Mallorca is reachable by a flight taking just over two hours, and one particular spot on the island is being praised for its incredible surroundings. TikTok user @nospaceinmypassport has likened Playa de Muro, situated on the island’s northern coast, to the Maldives, and it’s not hard to understand why.

Elsewhere Spanish property experts Yes Mallorca Property writes on its website: “The beach in the north of Mallorca, Playa de Muro, is considered by many tourists and residents to be the best on the island. It is the longest and widest beach in Mallorca.

“The beach has the Blue Flag award. A truly heavenly place that can easily beat the Maldives and the Caribbean Islands.” The coast has pristine white sandy beaches with some dunes, and is popular with families.

One TikTok user said: “Never seen a more beautiful beach than in Majorca it actually does look like this in real life”, while another wrote: “A morning jog along this beach is one of the best things I know”.

A third added: “Playa de Muro? Stunning isn’t it!” One-way flights from Southend to Palma start at £15 per person, and it can also be reached from Gatwick, Luton, Heathrow, London City and Stansted.

If you’re considering a trip to Mallorca, or any other part of Spain, it’s important to be aware of recent travel rule changes. Spain adheres to the Schengen rules and, post-Brexit, this implies that UK passport holders must ensure their passport has a “date of issue” less than 10 years prior to their arrival date.

As well as this, the “expiry date” should be at least three months beyond the day you intend to depart the Schengen area. Visa-free travel to the Schengen area, which includes Spain, is permitted for up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

This applies if you’re visiting as a tourist, meeting loved ones, attending meetings, cultural or sporting events, or for short-term studies or training. If you plan to work in Spain, different rules apply.
